Mouse, quail, and guinea pig include organs...(I did take the entrails out of the g pigs). CGH is weird...some stores have the liver in there, some don't.

I got Kimble and Avery to eat pork last night. They were hungry after free roaming all day and had a choice of pork or goat. I think Foster found the dog food, as he wasn't very hungry.

Your menu looks really good. I will be checking with Heather but I think you may be ready! Before you graduate, however, we give you a "quiz" to test what you have learned This is part of the mentoring program to ensure you know the basics (which I know you do) So if you could post the answers to the following questions I will be talking to Heather I'm Sooo proud of all of your hard work! 1)List 2 good sources of taurine. 2)How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone? 3)List 3 sources of edible bone. 4)Do chicken, turkey, and cornish game hen (CGH) count as different proteins? 5)Organs should consist of approximately how much liver, and how much "other" organ? 6)How many different proteins does a ferret need in a week at a Minimum? 7)What is a healthy diet item that can be used for hairballs, and his often should you give it? 8)Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats?

1. Heart and tongue (or 500mg supplements fed 250mg twice per day)
2.POOPS! If they are too firm. Too much bone; too soft needs more bone
3. CGH, chicken wing, pork button, chicken back, turkey neck, rabbit parts...
4. Yes!
5. 50% liver 50% other secreting organ
6. Min of three
7. 1 tsp egg yolk 3x per week per ferret
8. I would say that a balance between them, leaning toward fattier cuts is best.
Sorry it took so long and so many edits...I had to pick my daughter up from a band performance in the middle. Lol

I have one correction. You aren't "wrong" on number 7 but feeding whole egg is definitely better than just the yolk. There are lots of nutrients in the whites. You can feed an egg between your 3, 3x a week at most. I do 1-2 a week during shedding season.

Good, 'cause I usually feed the whole thing, but looked up the dosage on the forum specific to hairballs, as my boys haven't had any yet.

Congratulations :goodjob: You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone, now . You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days either Sherry or I will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly . ciao

WooHoo! Thank you! And thanks to mjbez...Mandelle, I couldn't have done it without you! I was SOOO happy last night when I put down a plate of CGH chunks & Rabbit hunks and the three boys (plus Hoshi, the cat) dug right in! Foster was chewing pieces with the rest.

It's 12:39 and SOMEBODY is eating rather loudly tonight. I think it is Kimble, judging from the "laughing" between bites. I'm glad he is enjoying his turkey chunks so much. (although I wish he'd chew quietly so I can sleep)
