I got the menu filled out today, but accidentally left it on the scanner at work. It's been really crazy lately and I took my 17 year old to the auto auction sat to buy a car, so temp tags and jump starting it to get it to the mechanic for a once over... I did get boneless chicken thighs this morning ($1.89-lb). They seem the have picked up pretty much where they left off. I'm relieved. They've been really hungry lately. Yesterday, F&A ate 3oz fgr in the am, 3 oz fgr in the evening, and Avery was making his sad 'yum-yum' face (smacking his lips and licking like he wished he was eating) at bedtime and they ate another 3oz FDR before bed! Avery has his seasons reversed, but Foster didn't last year. I don't know what is up with him. They all feel heavier, but I keep forgetting to weigh until AFTER they eat, which would throw everything off. I'll try to get updated weights tomorrow. In the up side, I haven't given them any kibble since last Nov. I think I need to bite the bullet and order from hare today or MPC next month. It's expensive, but the commercial is around $9/lb, so... Kimble is SOOO cute and chunky! He's a sturdy little thing. Will go back to the cage to use the litterbox, and eats just about any sort of meat. He likes to stash it till it stinks and then eat it. Ew. So...new grading period, conferences are over, you've been in your house a while and I assume the dog is settling in. Has life gotten more manageable now?

I'm very glad they have picked up where they left off. I wouldn't worry too much about when you weight them, it really isn't going to throw their weights off too much. Lol Kimble's affection for the finely aged meat is one shared by all of mine! It is gross but they love it (I just don't love it when I find it days later... ) Is life more manageable?... depends on the day you ask me! lol. Right now? Sure. But I also have the next week off... so I am feeling pretty good. The puppy has settled in pretty well but he is still a handful and a half most days. I still have a couple boxes to unpack, which I plan to do this next week (most of them anyways). I am loving all of the space, and my ferrets are too. They have their own bedroom now with their cage and all their toys. I let them free roam in there 24/7 now with the bottom cage door open. I miss having them roaming everywhere but with a larger house and the way some of the spaces are it just isn't safe. We try to gate off the hallway so they have the bedroom and hall and computer room to roam as often as we can. They think that is great fun Post your menu when you can. I'm thinking it is time to increase the size and amount of chunks they are getting. Do you have access to chicken backs (just curious.) They are usually really cheap and I find with the finer bones they are a great transition meat to get them gnawing on bones. I slivered up chicken backs, bone and all, into my soupie when I transitioned Miya and I found it worked really well with getting her to try bones.

I have a stock of chicken backs for Kimble. And yes, they are super cheap. I will try them (although yesterday, I came home and found F&A had licked the CGR off the chicken strips and laid them all on the tray in their cage.) *sigh* Weights on Tuesday were: Foster 2lb 6.3oz (+2.2oz) Avery 2lb 8.8oz (-0.3oz) Kimble 2lb 7.7oz (+1lb 2.3oz) (almost doubled in size since late Jan!) Glad your ferts are happy exploring the new digs.

Weights look really good. Try the chicken backs, just for kicks I can't help but to wonder what F&A would think of them slivered up in their grinds. When they lick off the grinds do you notice they go back and eat any of the strips later? Little stinkers.

Not fans of the chunks (strips) but we're still trying. I might wait until the next batch of backs to cut them up, as they were thawed when they got home from the butcher, repackaged into small baggies and refrozen. I usually drop them into lukewarm water just long enough for the outside to start softening, then throw them in the cage for Kimble to eat as they thaw (keeps them from getting smelly so quickly). I don't have any right now that are cut-able. And how small of bony pieces should I chop?

Cut them into strips similar to the size they eat of their boneless. However if you are having trouble with the New size you may want to stick to boneless until they are accepting them more readily. Are u feeding them every meal? What size are they ok with at the moment? Also do you have the menu? I would like to see what the three have been eating.

They deliver in my area once per month. It's expensive, but is way cheaper than the commercial from the pet store. Plus, I'm thinking that even the grinds will have a more "regular meat" texture and flavor.

Wow that's a nice order. And looking at the prices I don't find all of that expensive, especially compared to meat here. And im sorry to sound like a broken record but can u post what they have been eating. I need to check it out for balance/ variety, etc.

The current strips are 1/2" wide, 1/4-3/8" thick, and 1 1/4"-1 1/2" long. They eat some of them, but usually not all. I think Kimble has finally hit the end of his huge growth spurt. He stopped eating me out of house and home and has started wasting his food. I'm going to have to readjust portion sizes.

Oh yeah...this cracks me up. They are so courteous! Foster and Avery each ate theirs and left kimble's portion.

Lol. Looks like a perfect piece of the "pie" left for Kimble! It looks like the chunks are gone from their portion. Just an observation as well is it looks pretty runny. What is the consistency of the FDR? I would work on thickening it by adding less water. Just like on the soupie phase you work on making it less "soupie" and thicker like gravy. I have never used FRD so I don't know how thick it can be? With the menu does Kimble eat the bone in the chicken thigh? I did a breakdown of the meals that Kimble eats: 6 meals chicken 2 meals CGH 3 meals organ/heart 2 meals pork 1 meal beef He does get quite a bit of chicken, and right now has 4 proteins. This is OK but the more variety the better. Once your order comes in try things like the rabbit etc with him! I'm just wondering if he will eat it when it is ground? Definitely try it out. The repetition of meals falls on the bone-in meals, so it would be nice (but not needed) to change out a chicken meal or 2 with a different bone in meat
