OK, tentative menu for this week. I'm still waiting to get the stuff from the butcher; he didn't call & I didn't get a chance to call him until after 5:00. But I should have beef & pork heart, liver, & kidney to start adding in this week. A friend told me one of the local groceries has lamb this week so hopefully I can pick some of that up too.
Aaannd my daughter made hot wings for her friends this past weekend and emptied my supply of wings for Slinkee (We didn't have any in our freezer & she thought she'd be able to replace his before I needed them.) So I've put wings in the menu, but that may change if I can find another kind of bone-in meat this week when I go shopping.
Wed am: tongue, turkey Wed pm: wing
Thurs am: pork Thurs pm: wing
Fri am: liver, turkey (will replace this liver with kidney/liver mix if I get the kidney by then) Fri pm: wing
Sat am: tongue, egg (will chop the tongue & add heart when I get it) Sat pm: wing
Sun am: liver, gizzard (will replace this liver with kidney/liver mix) Sun pm: wing
Mon am: tongue, gizzard Mon pm: wing
Tues am: liver, pork (will try beef liver instead of chicken) Tues pm: wing

Now I know I'm supposed to have more bone-in meals in there, but looking back over last week's food/poop chart, the times that he had 2 bone meals in a row (and actually ate them), he had really hard dry poops, or the 'sunflower seedy' poop. I've put them every other meal, but that only gives him 7 instead of 9, so I don't know how to adjust it. I thought maybe a liver/bone meal, but he won't eat the bone if he has liver 'candy'.

yes the bone in meals usually give them harder poops.
if you need two more "bone in" meals, you can also feed a grind kind with muscle meat and the eggshell calcium. if you have 4 oz of meat, add in 1/4 teaspoon of the eggshell. that will count bc it has calcium in it.

New menu. I still haven't heard back from the butcher, but I got a bunch of turkey & chicken parts, so I've changed the menu to include some of those. I'll adjust again when I get the stuff from the butcher.
(Days in blue already fed) Wed am: beef tongue, ground turkey gravy - ate half the tongue, left the turkey Wed pm: chicken wing - left half, was still eating on it the next morning but I took it away (smelled funny)
Thurs am: pork - fed at 7:30 am, gone before noon Thurs pm: chicken wing - fed at 4:00, has only eaten a few bites as of 9:15
Fri am: turkey liver, turkey wingtip Fri pm: chicken wing
Sat am: chicken heart, beef stew meat, egg yolk Sat pm: chicken neck
Sun am: chicken liver, chicken gizzard Sun pm: chicken wing
Mon am: beef tongue, pork riblet Mon pm: pork riblet
Tues am: chicken liver, pork Tues pm: turkey neck

His energy levels are good obviously. How is his weight? Fur looking any different? Sometimes they change colors after you switch them!

Energy level is definitely good... he's terrorizing the dog as I type, lol. Weight last night was 2lb 12oz. Poops are stabilizing. Fur is thick & smells like grape koolaid He hasn't changed color, but his guard hairs are much darker brown and there are more of them.

That is a good weight for him. Poor dog. Sonny has been acting like a brat lately too. Major attitude and very destructive.

His fur is definitely softer than when he first came home. He's eating well, playing hard, pooping everywhere You know he hasn't liked turkey so much. But I got all those turkey parts the other day, so I was determined to make him learn to like it. I gave him just the wing tip with his liver yesterday and he jumped on it and ignored his liver until later. I gave him part of a turkey neck and he did the same thing. So I guess it's just the ground that he didn't like.

Slinkee's doing good In the past 24 hours, he's eaten beef, turkey, pork, and chicken - heart, stew meat, egg, neck, wing, liver, & gizzard. Beef stew meat & straight chicken hearts were new for him & his poops were a little bit runny yesterday, but they're good again today. We've spent a LOT of time outside, working in the yard & digging in flower beds, and he absolutely loves it. He had to have another bath last night to get the tree sap off - again. Hubby & I sat outside yesterday in the yard swing for at least an hour and Slinkee just sat with us, enjoying the beautiful day. This morning I opened the windows in his room, one of which is right behind his cage & he's moved his favorite bed so he can lay in it & look out the window & enjoy the breezes.

Wow slinky is a pro now. Taking to all other proteins easier now? Is he enjoying his food? part of the joy of feeding a raw diet is seeing how excited they are to eat. :-)

Mostly yes, he's enjoying his food. He's always excited to see what I'm serving, but he doesn't usually eat it right then. He likes to let it sit for a while, lol. He's crunching his bones pretty well. He got a little choked on a tiny bit from the chicken neck, though.
AND, he's decided he should stash some of it... I was hoping he wouldn't start that, but he took off with his wing the other night. Fortunately, I caught him before the dog noticed the food was out of the cage. So now I have to shut him in the cage whenever there's 'stashable meats' (i.e. not attached to the cage with hooks).
