I am so sorry things have been just crazy this week.
I've had a crazy 2 weeks myself. And my hard drive crashed so I have been sans-computer for a few days as well.
i have not cut the chunks into liver and hearts yet. i will try and get on that this week.my mom is weirded out a lil that i think its cool for them to eat a liver or heart that is not ground. lol
How are the liver and heart chunks going?
sadie- she is eating lager chunks now. bone and all. i tried to mix a little beef in some chicken i gave her to hide it and she like refused to eat it. next time I get more i will have to just hand feed i think. i am unsure why she wont eat it... could it be cuz it is ground? i find she dose not really like the ground turkey ither now that she is on chunks... i have to mix that in with chunks to get her to eat it anymore and the past couple times i have if i add what she thinks is to much she will refuse. i think i might just go and try turkey legs instead seeing as she seems to like the chunk-a-chunk instead of the ground. but the beef.. any secret to getting them to like ground better? or should i just get like chunk? she really just dose not seem to be into ground anything anymore >.>
You may have to resort to some hand feeding and possibly even some soup to introduce new meats. Beef in particular is very strongly flavored and takes longer for them to learn to like. She is doing great and I would like to work on focusing on a menu for her, that you will eventually get the other 2 on as well. Keeping in mind that the menu is a guideline, NOT something set in stone. It is to help you learn to balance their meals properly and make substitutions/adjustments when needed, and for me to see that you are doing that.
gizzmo and angel- they are both eating slivers. i need to cut more and will increase size again. they seem to not take to new foods too well but love the chicken. so i dont know what to do there. do i increase size of chicken and other slivers but add less slivers in the new meats? make the new meat slivers smaller and build up? they also do not like the ground turkey...i can add it to soup and with soupy chicken slivers but like sadie they will not eat it if it is what they consider too much. and trying to hand feed turkey is like trying to pull teeth

To introduce new foods, start by mixing teeny slivers into their soup. You can also make a new meat soup (e.g. turkey soup) and slooowly mix that in as well. Right now though the main focus is getting them to eat the slivers. First focus on increasing the number of slivers like we discussed before. Can you take a picture of what they are eating? I also need top and side profile pic updates of all 3 anyways along with weights.
For the new meats, mix a FEW teeny slivers into their regular sliver+soup mix. As you continue to increase the chicken, also increase the number (but not size YET) of the new meats. As they get used to the new meat, then increase the size of those chunks too.
oh and the ringworm is going away!! foot swelling going down and sadie has been cleared as to having none. THANK GOD. i also had my dog n cat looked at cuz i was worried they would get it and cause the infection to happen again and they are clear.. so i guess in 2 months i get them checked again to see if they are not carriers anymore then they can not be quarantined any more.
Good!
BLAH... i based my menue off my moms lol cuz i was kinda confused on how to make one. to tell you the truth i just used hers and changed meats around.
That's okay to start out, this is about learning. By the end of this though you should be constructing your own menus.
i do think i have the organ part down like say in a 7 day period i put
They need 1.5 meals a week of organ (half liver, half other organs) and 1.5 meals a week of heart
Monday
Am:Liver
Pm:heart
Tuesday
Am:Pork (muscle)
Pm:pork (muscle)
Wednesday
Am:quail (bone)
PM:quail (bone)
Thursday
Am: Chicken (bone)
Pm: Chicken (bone)
Friday
Am: Cornish Game Hen (bone)
Pm: Cornish Game hen (bone)
Saturday
Am: Turkey (muscle)
PM: Turkey (muscle)
Sunday
Am: Half Liver, Half Pigs Brain
Pm: quail (bone)
You are half a meal short on heart. Replace the Sunday liver portion with heart and you will be good on hearts and organs. Your variety looks good, but I would ideally like to see a little more non-poultry meat in there if possible. That will come in time, I know that you are working on getting Sadie to take beef, and we are still at the beginning with the other two.
kinda like that? and just let them eat as much as they are willing to eat in the AM and PM? i only ask cuz my moms ferret pixi pukes on her liver.. something about her mentor saying they do that sometimes cuz it is so rich.
dose bone meals not also count as muscle meals kinda?
Some ferrets eat too fast, some have more sensitive stomachs to the richer meats. That isn't super common though. Yes, they should get as much food as they will eat. A "meal" is considered what they eat in 12 hours. So AM means "breakfast" and whatever they eat during the day, and PM means "dinner" and whatever they eat overnight. They should have access to food 24/7.
going off them needing 1.5 meals of heart and organs. is it safe for me to assume that they need 1.5 liver 1.5 heart and 1.5 another organ? or if i understand correctly from your example i can do the 1.5 heart and 1.5 organ as a mix of liver and another organ like i did above?
Se my note above. They need 1.5 meals of ORGAN (of which at least half should be liver) and 1.5 meals of heart.
So a few examples of meal combinations that would fulfill this:
Meal 1: Half Liver, Half Kidney/Brains
Meal 2: Heart
Meal 3: Half Heart, Half Liver
OR
Meal 1: Liver
Meal 2: Heart
Meal 3: Half Heart, Half Kidney/Brains
OR you can premix an "Organs Mix" that is half liver, and half other organs, and then feed the mix for organ meals.
Meal 1: Organ Mix (half liver, half other organs)
Meal 2: Heart
Meal 3: Half Heart, Half Organ Mix
Does that make sense?
