I hope it is not renal failure. i hope it is just a blockage! the same thing happened to one of mine. he was also very young. only thing i noticed is that his breath smelled bad. by the time he stopped eating and drinking i noticed that he had sores/ulcers in his mouth. when i tried to force feed him he would gag and throw up. the smell of his breath was weird. it smelled like amonia-ish and just a strange smell. he would stand there and he just looked very nauseous. he slept most of the time. i'm sorry i can't remember all the details. i'm trying to remember but this was like 12 years ago. it was kind of a mystery as to how it happened. the vet thought he got into something that was poison to him. like a tab of aspirin or ibuprofen or something.
did the vet test to see his kidney function? i forgot what test it is ( i know his doctor tested his urine and blood) but i know there is a way they can see the kidney function.
it is so strange that this has happened so suddenly. could he have gotten into any poisons? like maybe swalled an advil tablet? those tablets are dangerous because they have a sweet coating and ferrets like them. it is so easy to drop one of those tablets on the floor and then that is all it takes.
i had a ferret that poisoned himself. he ate a bunch of halloween chocolate. his kidneys stopped working.
i think the vet put him on an IV and push fluids every few hours to try and flush out the toxins. the vet even had to take him home to his house for 2 days.
i pray that it is only a blockage and that his behavior is a reaction to pain as a result of the blockage.
