glad he has stool moving thru - he may still have something lodged in his gut- sux but if he keeps making a run to the potty & back - he is still very uncomfortable. If you stop the pumpkin & lax for a few hours - how will he react? then it would not be the lax making him do it, but discomfort. I pray for a resolution for him..

Just checking on your Neka. I am glad to hear he is a bit better. I hope it resolves itself on its own and that he doesn't have to undergo surgery! xoxoxox Neka!

Been to vet again, after a vomit fit that gave me a heart attack. She gave a sulcrate (sp?) to coat stomach as there is a tinge of blood in stools and vomit. Only vomited once in last 24hrs, but it was a good one. I think he over did it with drinking water and puked it up. It only had the smallest bit of undigested food, the rest was liquid. Vet feels his colour and hydration are good. He's slightly perkier then yesterday. She's suggested probiotics to help for now, and we will look at antibiotics if this goes on too long. Not out of woods, as there could still be something in there that caused the vomit, but due to improvement she feels that we can wait a bit longer to see if he's able to work it out on his own. The constant up/down is definitely wearing on momma. Worried about having to work the next few days, and not being able to be here 24/ 7.

Has she performed another barium x ray since he passed some blokages?

we've done two sets of x rays, second showed considerable movement and still a small something in stomach, but was unable to determine if it was foreign or pumpkin. The last was taken yesterday. The possible issue is something in stomach that causes an issue, then moves, and he seems fine, and then covers opening again, meaning he seems worse, going back and forth, so that is the possiblity we are looking at now. Because he's slowly improving I've opted to hold off on more xrays, till/unless it is deemed necessary. It's $300 each xray... $600 for each barium. I want to be sure I have money to do the surgery if it is necessary

I completely understand And that is a ridiculous price for an x ray. My vet charges $85 for a barium. I think that is fair. $300 is outrageous. Sounds like what the ER vet quoted me. keep us posted.

wow $85! I'm jealous! Yes the vet prices are unbelievable. It's $70 just for 'checkup'. before even doing anything. And those prices include return client discount... The surgery if god forbid is needed will be around $1500

I have two vets. One charges $35 a visit, $45 for a house call. No discount on multiple ferrets. My other charges $65 a visit, $29 each subsequent ferret. The second vet is further and generally more expensive. I like the first vet because they come to my house and usually don't mind taking a look at the others while there. Neka is in my thoughts - fingers crossed (and toes).

Those prices are a bit high I think. I suppose it's all about the exotic thing I still think your xray prices seem high. I don't know about the barium thing, I've been lucky so far. Please keep us posted, poor wee guy. It would be nice if our guys could figure out that rubber and other types of foreign substances weren't food. After all, it's so difficult to get them to eat real food....you'd think they would be at least a little discerning about what other things they decide to eat ciao

Those prices are high even for here We pay $150 for xray, and $55 for any subsequent xrays for the same problem. For a barium, you just add the cost of the barium on top of that. Don't remember how much it is, but not much more. Will keep fingers crossed, and candle lit.

Hi ROse, Neka is slowly improving. His poops are slowly getting thinker. he's not eating much on his own, I'm finger feeding him, and he's getting about 1 tbsp of mush meat every few hours, but I dont have to sryinge feed him now. I'm only giving him pumpkin 3 times a day. He's still pretty tired, but he's at least he's running from bed to bed, better then the slow crawl he was doing yesterday. I'll know when he's really feeling better, cause he'll hiss at someone lol I haven't heard him hiss since sunday, can you believe I actually miss his hissy attitude.
