1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
When we began feeding our dog, and cat raw a few years ago.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I would like to put him on a full raw diet, whole prey, and frankenprey would be fine with me, we have trouble getting affordable mice, and rats around here, likely i would just raise my own that way i know that they are raised in a healthy humane manner.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
That is what they were designed to eat from nose to tail, many many health problems stem from diet, from allergies, to tooth decay, we want to avoid health issues, and let him feel his very best every day by eating what he was meant to.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
I do understand that it will take time, i'm applying right now because i'm afraid that my first attempts may not go completely perfectly, and i have many questions, and i'd rather not flood the forum with them lol! I'm happily married, just celebrated our one year anniversary 2 days ago in fact, so nothing like that will be changing. I may be going back to school in 3-6 months, but i figured that it should be plenty of time for a transition, and if not i can put it off, and get him transitioned and then start courses when he's all set.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
We have one ferret, he's twelve weeks old, his name is Loki, he's a male. He has no known health problems he weighs 630 grams, i don't know if that is underweight or overweight for him just yet, i've had him for 7 days.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
He is eating Zupreem ferret diet grain free right now, 42% protein, 18% fat, I've been adding water, and beechnut chicken, and broth baby food to his normal food trying to get him used to a "meat" taste. he isn't getting any supplements. He doesn't get any treats right now either, as he won't accept anything from my hands.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
I'm in the process of trying right now. nothing has happened yet.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I'm very patient, i'm eager to getting him eating what he was meant to, i know this is absolutely the best thing for him! I want to keep him around for a very long time. We have soup in the freezer in ice cube trays, we have some in the fridge as well, we have a scale for weighing food, and him we can do it in grams as i saw that was preferred.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Every day, i also have my tablet with me most of the time.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
I don't have a shot like the one you described in the other thread, if it's okay when he is awake again and out of his cage i will try to get a decent top down one of him to show his body condition.
ETA: Here is the picture I was barely able and quick enough to get lol!
