Gwin is scheduled for surgery next week. The vet wants to remove the lump and do further testing.

That sounds like the best course of action.

Please let us know how his surgery goes, we'll keep him and you in our thoughts and prayers. Hopefully it won't be anything malignant and they can safely remove all of it.

Gwin is home. He is doing ok at the moment. The poor baby has an incision about half the length of his back . Our vet said that she was unhappy about how deep the mass was so that worries me. She is sending it out for testing so we have to wait again to find out if it is cancerous. (headwall) I am so worried. He is so young and I love him so much. Save

Aww sweetie, I'm so sorry. We'll keep you and Gwin in our prayers, and hope that the test results come back negative for anything malignant. Stay strong! Keep us updated on how Gwin does and what the test results are when you get them back, please.

No matter what comes back from that testing, guaranteed he is going to feel better with that out of him. Especially if it went so deep. Now, fingers crossed it comes back from the test as benign

I'm a little concerned that he doesn't seem to be eating. Albie isn't either. I am not sure if because they aren't getting out that much, to keep Gwin from going nuts, that they aren't all that hungry. Or if Gwin isn't eating for another reason and Albie is worried or something.

It could be both at this stage. Ferrets are remarkably smart when it comes to something being wrong with one of them. My ferrets ended up hardcore reminding me of that very recently with Apollo's ear infection. My alpha, Athena, gave him extra attention and groomings, and the other two boys, Ares (Apollo's brother) and Loki, took to sleeping with him constantly and being on guard to protect him if anyone tried to interfere. Ares actually nipped the cat in the leg the other day when the cat took a paw swing at Apollo when he was sniffing around him.
It could also be that Gwin just isn't feeling well, he did just have surgery after all, and doesn't want to eat because of that. If he keeps it up though, you may need to resort to offering a favorite food and see how he accepts it, or even spoon feeding if all else fails. Soupies are usually good for ferrets that are sick and refusing their food.

Giving Gwin his meds is a nightmare. My arm and hands are all scratched up because even with a syringe he is outright refusing to take it peacefully. He is also spitting out most of the antibiotics. 😡
