Hopefully it is just a fatty cyst. Please keep us updated!

Oh no, hopefully it'll end up just being something minor. I'll keep my fingers crossed for little Gwin. Let us know what the vet says.

Just left the vet's office. They took a sample of the tumor and are going to send it to their lab. It may take a while to get the info back. From the reaction of the lump when they took the sample she thinks it is a mast cell tumor, which she said is typically less bad in ferrets and said it could be an allergy thing. So here is hoping this is nothing to worry about.

We've had some success just applying hydrocortisone cream to mast cell tumors. They may come back later, but as long as the biopsy comes back as benign there should be no worries. MCTs in ferrets are usually benign. Best wishes for you and Gwin

oh so hoping it is a mast cell! Mine get those all the time. They come and go on ferrets. I only really worry about them if they break them open(risk of infection- use hydrocortisone or sudocream), or if they just start growing and getting larger. The last one they need to be removed. One thing to keep in mind is that mct's can often be triggered by adrenal disease.

I hope he doesn't have adrenal already.

Hopefully not yet. But if it keeps recurring it may be something to consider.

I'm so tired of waiting for the results. Especially because every time it seems like there is something wrong with him lately it makes me more worried.

So they pretty much just got blood and no cancer cells from the lump. The vet wants to do surgery to remove it and test it further.

What does he think it is, if not cancerous?

She wasn't all that clear. She said something about it possibly being a type of tumor that it might.m harder to get cells from. Also since it is still there and might be a little bigger she wants to remove it. She was talking medical speak so I didn't really understand a lot.

If it is getting larger, having it removed and tested would likely be best.

You could ask if it's a mast cell tumor. they are usually harmless. If not, removing it could be a problem. We've had one ferret with the bad kind. He had one removed and we chose not to biopsy. 3 months later he was gone. I believe the vet missed a small bit of the original tumor and it metastasized all over. I don't blame her. Booboo was 7 years old.
