Please confirm that you are 18 years of age or older:
I'm 20, almost 21!
1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
On this forum actually!
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I want Piper to be on a full raw meat diet. I have access to pork, chicken, and beef and I am locating other proteins currently. I'd like to feed whole prey, but I don't have a reliable, continuous source to do so yet.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I know how important she is to me, and I only want what is best for her. She deserves to be fed what she was designed to eat - by bringing her into my home I made a promise to take care of her no matter the cost.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? It's not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more than happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the necessary time commitment?
I am ready, willing, and I've already started.
Here's the thread I started: Right Here!!
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
Name: Piper
Age: 3 mos., 1 week and 1 day old
Gender: Female (desexed)
Health Problems: None known/exhibited
Weight: 1lb 5.8oz
I've had Piper for 8 days now!
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
I WAS feeding her Zupreem, but then switched to the transition soup consisting of:
8oz chicken thigh
1oz beef heart
1oz chicken liver
1/2 tsp powdered eggshell
She eats it faster than I can put it into her bowl haha...(I am trying to see how many cubes/grams she's eating so I can be sure to put more than she eats in her bowl at all times)
She has also eaten a whole Chicken Wingette before (incl bone) and all the meat off of another one.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
This is my first ferret and my first switch
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I'm a worry-wart and might ask tons of questions and post too many stool pictures. She means the world to me and I want to make sure I'm doing everything by the book!
Piper is not liking beef or pork but LOVES chicken. I'd like to get her to eat beef and pork since I can reliably get that locally, but I am also in the process of finding other meats such as deer, quail, goat, duck, etc.
I eat Kosher, but I'm more than willing to feed her things like pork, duck, goat, etc. I just may not have good knowledge as to what part of those animals I need to be feeding as a muscle meat, etc. as stupid as that sounds.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
24/7 basically. I do digital art so I'm usually always near a computer as sad as that may sound haha...
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
Here's two above shots of her BEFORE I started feeding her the Chicken and soup. If I need better pictures, please don't hesitate to tell me. The other one is just for fun
