Okay, I have literally no idea what has caused this stool. It's basically gravy. All Piper had was Quail (which hasn't given her a problem) and 2.8 ounces of heart last night. What do you think caused this? She hasn't gotten into anything...is it vomit?

I was thinking that it might have been the beef heart fat that caused this, as I realise too little too late she had about 3 chunks of just the beef heart fat instead of the actual heart. For future reference, should I just take out most of the beef heart fat next time?
Thank you, and sorry for the pm!

Okay so has she had multiple white poops? Or just the one? Sometimes weird poops can happen and it could be due to the fat. I dont trim, fat is a good source of energy, but try to not feed a disproportionate amount of fat. Im glad theyre feeling better <3 And if you have anything urgent you can always feel free to message me on Facebook. My name is Bella Jaime

She has, everything else about her is normal, though, so if there IS fat, it should be lesser to the amount of meat in the meal?
Alas, I don't have Facebook, but thank you for the offer.

Yeah I talked to some of the other mentors and they've had similar experiences when their ferrets ate a larger chunk of fat. It's no big deal and I wouldn't worry about it especially since she is doing fine.
Yupp, and some things are just higher in fat or have chunks of fat that ferrets love to eat first since it's super tasty to them. When you get the chance will you post some pictures of Piper and Floki? And did you get a wait on Floki when you went to the vet?

My apologies for the extremely late reply, school begins on Monday and I've had people in and out of my apartment for the past week and a half...it won't happen again. I also was gifted a ferret nation cage and we set it up yesterday, the ferrets are super stoked with the run-around room now! I introduced Piper to Turkey neck for the first time today, she went straight for it. Flóki also went straight for the Quail. I was late in introducing them to new proteins due to my hectic schedule, but I've got meat sorted and ready for meals for almost two weeks. I bought a whole duck and will start cutting it up when it is thawed! Can they eat every bone in a duck? This one came without the neck, unfortunately. I weighed him myself a couple days ago - he started at 1lb 66oz, went down to 1lb 4oz (when he first got sick) and now he's back and steady at 1lb 9oz! Piper is also at 1lb 9 oz now! Here are the pictures! They were both pretty dead when I woke them up to take pictures, so they were lying down a little and Flokes squirmed some, I'm also not entirely comfortable with scruffing them...if I need to retake them please let me know and I will do so asap! My apologies for not posting them sooner: FlókiI don't know if it's something you're interested in hearing, but I had a friend over when I bought Flokes and was here for about a week. They said he smelled a little when we first brought him home, you could feel a lot of his bones, his stomach was a 'weird-round', like something was just stuck in him. After a week (I switched him to soup immediately) they said he doesn't smell, his belly looks much better, he's more active, and you can't feel his bones much anymore. His stools are also much better! Piper(Before Switch)(After Switch) Piper just feels and looks so much better! Her coat is so soft, her stools don't look bad, her energy levels are definitely improved (especially after I brought her 'brother' home).

I'm not confident these are good enough photos, do you have any tips to take appropriate pictures without a wild goose chase ensuing?

They both look so good! Those are perfect pictures! I love the dark classic sables <3 No worries on the late response. Theyre both eating chunks so you don't have to post everyday (although feel free to post as much as you want!) I'm so glad that they seem to be taking to raw so well. They can't have duck for every bone in meal, a variety of 2-3 different edible bone proteins is advised. Poor Floki probably had a potbelly maybe from the kibble. They both look great! I remember when I brouht my Mordy home and he STANK to high heaven! After swithing the smell dissipated from him pretty quickly.

Thank you! And I think there's a misunderstanding, I mean can they crunch through any bone in a duck? I definitely wouldn't serve them for every bone-in meal!! Piper is still a little resistant to the turkey necks, but she's eating more and more of the turkey neck meals each time. Flóki is also starting to eat more of the quail bones! I need to cut up the duck either tomorrow or the day after, today alone I got a 7 page computer programming assignment and I'm a little tight for time to cut up a duck right now(but rest assured, they're getting at least 4 proteins switched around right now, and I want to introduce them to pork and venison after Piper eats more of the Turkey necks as soon as possible!)
I do have a question. I'm keeping them both separated in the ferret nation (Flóki is on the bottom level, Piper is on the top level) so I can monitor stools and litter train them. When Flóki eats the same proteins as Piper and the litter box boot camp is done, do I combine Piper's ~4oz to Flóki's ~7oz meals in the same bowl or do I need to separate the meals?

They might have a bit of trouble with the legs, thighs, and other thicker bones. If you're able, then I usually smash up really dense bones a bit so its easier to eat. You should be able to feed them together unless one of them turns iut to be a major piggy and eats all the food. Thats pretty rare though! I feed all 3 of mine togeher at once

Thank you for the tips! Okay, so for whatever reason, the past few days both Flóki and Piper's stools have been dark and...I hesitate to say watery, but they've been pretty loose. At first, I didn't think anything about it because I noticed after they had an organ meal and I thought that was why. What do you think is causing this? I noticed that Piper and Flóki weren't eating enough bone (or to me anyway, Flóki would leave some of the quail bones and Piper didn't eat all the turkey necks at first) so I put 3/4 tsp bone meal on their beef stew meat... Piper's Meals: Sunday AM: Turkey Neck Sunday PM: 1/2 Liver, 1/2 Kidney meal (she didn't eat a lot of this? she usually does) Monday AM: Turkey Neck Monday PM: Beef Stew Meat Tuesday AM: Turkey Neck I was giving her so much turkey neck to see what her stools did...is this the right way of doing that?? Did I overload her with a new protein? Flóki's Meals: Sunday AM: Quail Sunday PM: 1/2 Liver, 1/2 Kidney (ate all) Monday AM: Quail Monday PM: Beef Stew Meat Tuesday AM: Quail Same with Flóki, I was watching his stools on Quail... Here's a picture: The darker stuff was there yesterday to note, I thought leaving it in the box would encourage Floki to use the litter box. The lighter stuff is from today. But the darker stuff is exactly what Piper and Floki's stools look like, with a lot of pee and in smaller quantities.

Those are some yuck poops... Are they still having them today? It could be that they arent eating enough bone, so lets add a bit more eggshell powder. You didn't overload her with a new protein, giving them a new meat for a coupledays is a good way to vet her used to eating it.
Sometimes ferrets just have funky poops, but sometimes it means they're sick. Usually if they have green or bad diarrhea for more than 1 day its time to go to the vet.

Also if their diarrhea gets worse make sure they're staying hydrated. Are they all done with the antibiotics? You might give some probiotics and see if that helps settle their tums.

Ahhh that is what I figured, I will add some bone meal to their next couple of meals because I really don't think they have been getting enough bone... They will be done with their meds after two more doses! What sort of probiotics are you talking about? I don't have any experience with this Their activity levels are normal, they are eating and drinking as normal (just being picky with the bones, I should have paid more attention to that, I will chop up what bones I can and see if that helps them...). I guess Piper has been drinking a lot of water and peeing more due to her stools?

You can try giving kefir? You want plain unsweetened and I can usually find it at HEB. Not too much, maybe just a teaspoon. You can also order probiotic capsules online.
