1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
Internet, googling, Holistic ferret forum
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I'd like a full switch to balanced raw diet without feeding live prey.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
Health benefits for ferrets is the main reason for my decision to switch.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the neccessary time commitment?
I am willing and able. I have many obligations but also have a advantage to work from home with flexible working hours which enables me to spend quite a lot of time with my ferrets.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I have eight ferrets atm. Four of them are already eating raw (meat/bone/organs) – Huritt, Ayasha, Ernest, Zina
Other four are at the beginning of switching and I would like to make a full switch.
Loki, 6y 2 m, male, castrated, 1.2 kg, normal weight, insulinoma suspected, still not on therapy, full checkup made (complete blood panel, ultrasound – findings available upon request), regular daily BG checking with 2 glucometers, teeth tartar UZV cleaning and implanting Suprelorin done 27th of October, with us since the age of four months.
Hogar, 3 y 6 m, male, castrated, 1.2 kg, normal weight, healthy, some teeth tartar. With us since the age of 2 months.
Sigmund, 2 y 6 m, male, castrated, 1.85 kg, normal weight/build, healthy. With us since the age of 3 months.
Signy, 2 y 6 m, female, ovarioerectomy, 0.65 kg, very small but normal weight/build, healthy. Chipped canines. With us since the age of 3 months.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
Answer to 6&7 combined
I switched two adopted ones – Ernest and Zina in no time. We had no period of eating pureed meat, but they immediatelly started with chunks. Now they eat meat, bones and organs without problems, few different proteins.
I began to feed Loki, Hogar, Sigmund and Signy raw chicken thy and leg with skin, de-boned for breakfast some 1.5 – 2 yrs ago, they accepted it immediately, well and are chewing and eating by themselves. Chunks are cut approx 1,5 -2 x 1.5x2 cm big. On 13th of October I started with pureed chicken breast with skin and rabbit meat (50:50) mixed with chicken breast and rabbit meat chunks. They accepted it well, Sigmund is eating almost alone, he needs some incentive with spoon feeding to begin but eats and chews by himself. Loki is also mostly eating by himself under my supervision, Hogar has to be spoon fed 75% of the meal and Signy has to be spoon fed and held. Spoon feeding is basically putting some chunks/puree mix on spoon and offering them while gently holding them in place. They eat 220 grams of chicken thy/leg chunks for breakfast and approx. 220 grams of puree/chunks (60% rabbit, 40% chicken breast). Their weights are not dropping, they are lively, active and energetic, and Loki's glucose is varying around 3.8 mmol/l.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Available upon further inquiry if needed. Nothing atm.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
24/7
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).

11. Have you met the requirements for this program? Are you at least 18 years of age? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc?
15 posts. Rather informed. 36 yo. I have scale, few local butchers, private breeder for rabbits and quail.
