Today has been a break through day with Willy!
First, the little piggy is definitely back! In light of this new fact (and how much ZuPreem poops smells) I decided to try feeding him a bit of raw tonight. I took a glob of the girls straight raw soup and he ate it off my finger, with myself in pushy encouragement So I mixed up a dish of raw & kibble mush, and we shall see how he takes to that!
Second, playtime! Willy has been sulky, and not the playful ferret his previous owner raved about. Of course for good reason, wee weasel had his world turned upside down! Today I had him out in the living room (ooh, ahh, new room!) with his dirt dig box AND the snorkel pan. He was dancing into everything. I got him revved up with a plastic bag, and after that he wanted to play WITH me non-stop. Hide - and - Go Seek, chase, cat teaser toy. He even took a 2 minute (literally) ferret nap in my arms. Yet to hear him dook, but I'm in high hopes!
Third, I have the play room divides by a gate, so Bear & Willy can sniff each other through it. Their litter boxes & food are back to back along the gate, so their most vulnerable behaviors are near each other, and then learn to be in each others company. I have their beds far apart (on each side) so they don't get too stressed & can retreat/hide. So far nothing. They meet face to face at the gate, sniff, Bear hisses & Willy jumps back - then they just stare at each other... Let's call that progress
Finally, Trixie hasn't bitten anyone today. I've had her in her cage, uninterrupted alone time since yesterday. She seems a little happier & relaxed today. Only had one, brief tussle with Bear. Trixie is eating, drinking, and pooping normally, but she has slowed down a lot. When I get her out she is up for all of 10 minutes before falling asleep somewhere hard to find :/ She used to love her teaser toy & trying to stash water bottles in the wardrobe, now she won't do either. She looks so much healthier & has a great appetite on raw. I think she is just a sad, grumpy fuzz My husband did get her to play with her cat teaser toy a little bit tonight. I sat down to watch, gave her a treat, then later she came over crawled into my lap, laid down and bit me.
3+ / 1- ... I call that success. Looking into Willy's eyes for that (very) brief ferret nap it was like "yup, totally worth it". He is going to be such an amazing fuzzy once we get a bond formed.
