My baby girl was caught out by my male by accident and i noticed it wasnt a normal pregnancy, katelin (my little girl) never got broody or anything like that until yesterday when i noticed she had started to pull fur from her back, she never stopped eating or anything and last night i noticed her glands had swollen slighty so i assumed she had at least around 10 days left give or take a day or so as she has only been pregnant for around 32 days, she stillenjoyed her cuddles off me this morning and ran around my kitchen playing with her toys while i got her tea ready so i didnt think anything was wrong until this afternoon when i heard the familier sound of kits coming from her cage as i got closer i saw the blood and heard the kits chattering away quite happily and my katelin came out to lick my fingers as she does every time she greets me, is it normal for a ferret to give birth after only 32 days im not a breeder and this is the second time one of my females have got pregnant by a vassectomised male needless to say i have since had my males castrated i am concerned for my little katelin tho and would welcome any advice i can get

Could you have miscalculated? I have a wee jill who never got broody and actually decided to have her kits on my lap. I was snuggling her and rubbing her back and belly when she started having her first contractions. Poor wee mite, I felt rather sorry for her but she got right down to business (I placed her in a large comforter where she happily delivered her litter) Does she seem happy enough? is she laying down quietly nursing her little brood? Is she eating? drinking? If so things might be ok with the litter. I don't believe there is much you can do about anything other than let nature take it's course as far as the litter goes. You can make sure that your jill is nursing and if she is leave her to it. Are the kits quiet while they're nursing? My understanding is she won't allow them to nurse if she's not had all her kits. The worst thing for kits is allowing them to get cool as they will stop trying to nurse at that point. If she's allowing them to nurse and settles well and eats, she should be as fine as possible. I would be more concerned about her than her litter, but then I always worry more about my jills. My little jill moved her little ones to a clean space as soon as she was finished and they had nursed a bit. This allowed me to clean up the birthing blood (she'd eaten all the afterbirths). She moved the kits every couple of days keeping the nest absolutely clean at all times. ciao

Congrats. I think Heather covered the important points. I've never bred but have closely followed a few litters. I hope your momma and kits do well.

How old is your little jill? She seems to be doing ok from what you've mentioned at this time. Keep things quiet around her and handle as little as possible at this point and let her do her job. I would be rather annoyed with the vet who did the vasectomy on my male though.....mistakes do happen though. ciao

Hi its very unusual for them to give birth ten days early 3or 4 days yes but you may of been lucky or unlucky which ever way you want to look at it lol ( demand a free re vasectomy from your vet and this time make him send the bits to the lab this has happened to me before and they have cut out tissue not tubes !) heather has given you good advice keep her calm try not to interrupt her too much this first week of bonding cleaning and feeding time is really really important normally with mine I do the minimum ( moms don't get play time ) I clean corners if mom comes out I pick her up act as if I know nothing ( hey I cant here those squeeks lol ) quickly check her teats so there are no hard lumps ( gently squeeze one just to make sure milk is flowing ) then pop her back in with her food ( I normally give nursing moms food cut fine so its easy for them to swallow down quickly and place the bowl close to the nest box so she can even just pop her head out to feed make sure she has plenty of bonemeal in her diet ( her own supply will run out after three weeks of nursing so needs topping up constantly as she gives it to her kits via milk ) you can grind down egg shells and sprinkle this on her food or use steralised bonemeal powder or lactol ( kitten replacer milk ) if you have any questions please ask and keep us updated on how things are going good luck take care bye for now Bev

My jill (katelin) is only ten monthes old herself hence why i was so worried it was an accidental pregnancy the male was meant to be vassectomised anyway she had 6 kits in total 5 were a nice size 1 was tiny to say the least the kits are all 11 days old now and katelin is coping very well with them shes been an amazing mum the only concern i have now is that the tiny one doesnt seem to be growing its still tiny but she does seem to be feeding it ok so im just keeping my eye on the situation i would love to add a pic of the kits if anyone can tell me how to download one off my smartfone please i know i sound realy dumb not being able to do it lol

I'm so glad that you and your little ones are doing so well. There is a description on how to download pics in the tech portion of the forum....personally, I'm the last person in the world you want to describe how to do something. I've found that photobucket is one of the easiest methods to work the transfer of pics to the forum ciao

I have photobucket on my mobile but cant figure out how to transfer my pics to the forum from it im so dumb when it comes to things like that lol but as for my tiny ferret kit i had words with my vet about it and she thinks katelin my baby girl has had what she calls a tiny its a term she gives to minature ferrets she said that her jill had a tiny and it lived to 12 years old so all she said to do is to keep an eye on it to make sure its feeding and that if i think its struggling to feed im gonna have to hand feed it with a substitute that she used for hers but to be honest i think katelin seems to be doin a fantastic job with all the kits considering shes anly ten months old herself so ill just watch the situation and see how things turn out

So glad they are doing well, she sounds like a wonderful mum. Have you got any homes lined up? I know it was an accidental litter, not sure if you knew she was pregnant until recently so just asking in the hopes that if you haven't maybe we can share the information with anyone that might be local to you and can be trusted to properly care for her babies.
In regards to the photo, I think it's the insert picture that's confusing you. There's a little button at the top of the reply that has a picture on, it's next to the envelope with the arrow on. You should be able to post your http link in there. I tend to use the bbcode but it won't let me write it (it's trying to turn it into a picture). If you find it easier it's img with [ ] around it, post the http link then [/img]. Make sure there are no spaces.
