I posted on the facebook page but I wanted to keep a thread on here too for those who may come across the same issue. I searched on the forum and found this holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/11849. It looks like the same thing Tundra has, so he has an appointment with a new vet on Wednesday of next week. Vet was out of town till Monday and booked until Wednesday. She specifically sees ferrets but can see dogs and cats if needed. The other two vets see cats and dogs but can see ferrets if need be so if it gets worse, he can't eat or is in pain I will take him in sooner. I think it's an abscess. I talked to one of the techs who also has ferrets and they are fine with raw as long the ferrets are healthy which is awesome. I've had some issues with my old vet so I'm glad to be checking out a new one. She also said that we can wait for vaccines till Tundra heals up. Rabies is required in my state. I noticed this today because I was snuggling with Tundra in my lap and he yawned. He has been acting normal and eating just fine so I think we caught this early. Tundra is four and half months old, neutered, I've had him since 6 weeks old, went right onto raw. Picture of Tundra's mouth, best shot I could get. I will update if anything happens.

I tried doing some research and didn't come up with much. Is it on both sides?
A vet visit is a good idea. Have you seen any issues with eating? If you like this new vet, please add her to the vet list.

That does look like an abscess, or at least looks like pictures I've seen. One of them was on the FB page I think, the poor ferret was very sick and had 4 larger ones in the throat. Did you have any inkling that Tundra's mouth was bothering him? It's a good thing you caught it.

I wonder if maybe a piece of bone scratched it while he was eating and caused an abscess

I wonder if maybe a piece of bone scratched it while he was eating and caused an abscess Yeah, that possibility is mentioned here: host17.qnop.net/~nfws/abscess.htmWe have also come across abscesses in this area as a result of penetrating foreign bodies from the mouth such as small pieces of chick bone. It is always wise to let the veterinary surgeon know if you are feeding chicks as this will help in diagnosis and treatment.

Nothing is bothering him as far as I can tell. He's acting normal, eating normal and breathing normal. @poncesmom it's only one side, swelling has gone down a little bit today. If I like her, I definitely will add her. acodlin I really hope it isn't bone related. I would hate to have to argue with another vet about raw. The tech said she was fine with it as long as it works. Not sure if having an abscess from a bone will constitute as working. Blue No idea it was there. He didn't show any outside symptoms.

I hope Tundra will not be in any discomfort. I'm sending him all my Well Wishes. I'm curious as to what the vet says and does. That's so great that they are okay with feeding raw.

Yeah, looks like a cyst. Rocky had one on his lip.

Our appointment is this morning in about two hours. No change in his throat so that's good. Hopefully it'll be a quick and easy fix. I'll update afterwards.

UPDATE
Well the vet and the CSU ferret expert have no idea what it is. Lol. Of course. But we are doing a round of antibiotics and see if that helps. If not then we are going in and poking.
I really did love this new vet. She was totally okay with raw, asked me where I sourced my whole prey and loved the way Tundra looked. Tundra was hit of the office. Everyone commented on how big he was. Lol! We both got a tour of the facility (something my last vet never offered) and I felt incredibly welcomed. So yay!! I'll add them to the list when I get a chance!

Ugh I'm so jealous, my vet is respectful but not exactly approving of raw. I hope they figure out what's up, and that handsome enjoyed having his ego stroked!

Tundra finally got back in to the vet this morning. They put him under and lanced the bump. Nothing showed up on the cytology so they didn't want to send it out for additional testing. Dr. Marsden thinks it was probably a small bone puncture. But with that being said she didn't even once suggest that I not feed raw. He does seem to be in a small amount of pain and does not want to open his mouth for me. Should I feed him boneless meats for a few days? (Everyone else would have to be on boneless meats too) I have bone meal powder, would that be okay for a few days? He is on baytril for two weeks.
