Ahaha I love the name Gwin! Shame that horned martens aren't real (that we know of ;p)! I can crochet too so thanks for the pattern! Thus far none of mine seem to be thieves/stashers. They enjoy burrowing into our shoes or slippers. That or scratching them up -__- They also just like running around and exploring a lot. One likes it when he's being chased, the other we haven't figured it out yet I shall have to try tubes and the like. I think my pair might like those. They're not playing with the bell balls nor the soft panda we got so I'm not 100% sure they'll care for Derby eggs but we shall see!

they like derby eggs because they can pick them up and stash them and they rattle. My little sprite Cassia loves to shake them and hear them rattle.

I need to learn how to make them or find somewhere to buy them online. I'd love my boys to have something they like to play with, and if not I'm sure Korra will add them to her nest! hehe

Ferret fabulous finds auction on Facebook has crocheted eggs that many of the rescues here love! Bonus is that 10% of the proceeds each week go to that weeks featured rescue. They featured the Navarre Ferret Rescue last fall and were a huge benefit to us.

You can also make cheap derby like egg things by putting some dry rice in a plastic easter egg, then tossing the egg in an old sock. Just tie a knot in the sock at the ankle end and voila! You now have a much harder to destroy rattling egg toy. My guys love theirs.

I'm highly doubting my pair will care as neither stash or chase or rattle things but who knows They might like them when they get older and I know they do chase if I am the one tossing the rattling toys. Either way - good to know about the ferret fabulous finds auction, jadeguppy! I think I'd seen it previously but I hadn't really paid attention. And thanks for hte quick idea, Yurei!

and none of mine (going on 8 so far) have really been thieves, they don't stash personal items like socks, keys, ect. they will play with my shoes and slippers but they don't steal them and stash them Well I now stand Corrected. Al one of my new additions, Jumped up on the ottoman grabbed my slipper and pulled it under the couch. 30 seconds later He jumped back up and grabbed the other one and put it in the same place. So now I have my first thief ever.

Foster doesn't really play with toys much...he has been known to steal and stash wallets that have been left out though... He is my climber and delights in getting onto places he's not supposed to be. And pushing stuff off tables. He believes all tables should be completely cleared.
Avery (my waardie) - loves crocheted eggs. Loves to shake and bite them till they squeak until the yarn gives way and then he ignores them. He is known for stealing wrist braces, knee braces, ankle braces (see a pattern?), my hubby's velcro belly wrap (for his peg tube), bras, and socks. He puts them all under the bed and is annoyed if the eggs are too big to fit. He hides stuffies if they squeak. He hisses at me if I'm squeaking them, takes them, stuffs them under the dresser and walks off. Does NOT like squeaking. LOVES towel rides.
Bubby - He doesn't like crocheted eggs. He likes eggs without the crochet part (which works out well since Avery likes to remove the crochet part). He likes ping pong balls, balls with bells in them, ferret babble balls...all balls really. He rolls them around with his nose. Also have to watch it or he'll steal my prescription bottles and stash them.
All three love tunnels, dig boxes (with ping pong balls, crinkle paper strips, rice, dirt, clean litter...), socks that I'm waving above their heads, they play with our polydactyl cat, and they like to go outside on a leash/harness. Not so much into going outside in a playpen.

These are all very interesting stories!
I'm still not 100% sure what my pair like to do. I know Murphy is HUGE on climbing. He's been climbing the bars of the cage since day one (although in the beginning he only made it up two rungs before falling, now he can make it all the way to the very top!). He'll climb just about anything he can. Recently he learned how to climb beds and climb up my shirt -__- I know he likes chasing after a ball that has a bell in it if I throw it but once it stops moving, he loses interest.
Axle on the other hand is very very difficult to understand. As far as I can tell, he likes burrowing in things (frequently find him under a blanket on the floor or under the bed). Other than that, he shows no real interest in anything. He'll play with Murphy for a bit then move on and wander around. He's more vocal (in the hissing and squeaking department) but I rarely hear him really dook.
Today I bought them the octopus so I'm hoping they'll have a blast with it when I get home tonight. They'll be getting a dig box too once I clean out the box I have in mind. Moving stinks! D:

Mine are all about playing with each other. Running, chasing, hiding and the famous jump and tackle. Their favorite toys are the large plastic drainage tunnels. I have four of them and that makes for 40 feet of tunnel. Ace/Home Depot and Lowes sell them for just a few dollars.
Juliet's favorite game is the Under game. I put a blanket down and she burrows under and the others follow.
Keller is the only one who will play with a small hard ball. She rolls it around, flips it up and chases it. She was an only ferret for a long time.
Bags, boxes and anything new is fun to explore.
I also put blankets into the tub and drape a rug over it. They play around in the tub and I have some beach toys for them. Sometimes, I turn the water on and they like that. I also have a small plastic kiddie pool and that makes for alot of fun. You can put balls or blankets or fill it up with some water and toss in some FDR and they go fishing.

Mine loves balls with bells inside, in fact its the only toy she will stash! I did buy her a plastic toy car yesterday that she pushes around with her nose Im lucky i dont have a chewer, but I still make sure there are no small parts or rubber. Baby toys are awesome! Rice boxes are great too! I'm pretty sure ferrets can turn anything into a game though

Thus far, Murphy is a definite chewer. I'm going to have to find something that he can safely chew because I'm worried he's going to wind up ingesting fabric (he was chewing on his pirate ship hammock the other day) :/ Axle enjoyed the Octopus I just bought so I can see that he likes tunnels (although today he's ignored it so who knows if it was just the novelty of the toy). Ahh these little boogers are so confusing

Today my girlies discovered the joys of towel surfing. I had tried it in the past but it never did anything for them... Today is got them so wound up and hyper!
Here's what I did: Take a handtowel, put ferret on one end, pick up other end, and slowly drag across the floor (slow enough so that even if the ferrets rolls off they can easily walk back on). When I reach the wall I turn around and go back the other way. Nova loved climbing up the towel towards my hand (I held it about 8" above ground so part of the towel was on an incline). She also kept jumping on Mocha who was just sitting there.
Mocha REALLY surprised me. She just sat still on the towel not really doing much of anything, but when my back hurt and I stopped she just started dooking and war dancing! This was completely unexpected since she isn't a very vocal ferret.
