Hey! So I read somewhere that a lot of people were having trouble with their ferrets and Wysong food and I wanted to know if anyone had or is still having any problems with that food? I don't feel comfortable giving my ferret raw food and she doesn't seem to like meat so I wanted to keep her on the best possible food on the market but I'm actually terrified about what people said but I reeeaaalllyy want to get her off Marshall, any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks!!

There's a "Digestive Support" version out now that is very close to the original formulation. Some people still don't find it as good as the original, though. I didn't really use much Wysong, and the digestive version was already out when I got Maisie so I haven't compared. www.amazon.com/Wysong-Epigen-Digestive-Support-3-Pound/dp/B00M42P6SS

So that was the 'New version' they were talking about?

I don't think so. It goes like this: - there was original Wysong - then about a year ago (or more?) they changed the formula without telling anyone. This gave a lot of ferrets bad diarrhea - ferret owners wrote to Wysong about it - Wysong came out with a "Digestive Support" version that is very close to the original Wysong So there's no original Wysong anymore. Regular Wysong is the version that makes many ferrets sick. "Digestive Support" is very close to the original version but not quite as good. For the best ferret kibble available, here's a pretty good food chart with ratings and various notes: ferretedu.weebly.com/ferret-food-chart.html

Wysong's change gave me the final push to move to raw. (my ferrets refused to eat the new formula)
Wysong did give notice of the formula change after they were out of the old formula so you could not stock up. I had a bag I always keep in the freezer for reserve. When 5 of my 6 ferrets would not eat the new formula, I was fed up with kibble and their manufacturers playing roulette with my ferrets lives. To Raw I went.
I am so glad I did.

My girl itched real bad on wysong epigen 90. My vet said she may not have been getting enough fat or had an allergy to something in it...Anyway she stayed underweight, and has gained one lb and has the nicest coat since she has been on raw.
u can do the soupies. They succumb to the soupies pretty quickly.

another thing, getting them to switch from one kibble to another kibble can be just as much work as switching them to raw.
I had a 5 year old ferret that was fed Special Kitty for 5 years of his life. Imagine how much work that was to switch to a decent food after eating carb load for 5 years.
He did not last long with being on that diet for 5 years only got about a year longer with him before he started with the seizures

another thing, getting them to switch from one kibble to another kibble can be just as much work as switching them to raw. Seriously, that is so true! The reason I decided to take the plunge with raw is because I was having such a terrible time switching Maisie from Wellness CORE (peas) to Orijen! She was being really difficult, and I tried a lot of tricks. The last kibble she ever had was 8 pieces of CORE that she'd picked out leaving behind 12 pieces of Orijen.

Gosh, that is so sad. My senior was on Evo first and then Wysong--to tell u the truth i think she did better on Evo----- but she is doing great on raw---just trying to manage those feathered protein sensitivities. Finally ordered some guinea pigs--shipping cost more than the guinea pigs > Evo---too many recalls I cut up a cow's heart tonight--feeding gristley part to my dog------she's a beef-eater. Hope them finicky ferrets like it.

where did you order the GP from abbeytheferret6? With most whole prey providers you really do have to work at filling up the box to make it economical because the shipping costs are fixed. It's the same if the box is 95% full or 10% full.

With rodent pro I really have to wait until I can afford to fill a whole box to order.
I throw some rabbit, quail, GP, and chicken in there to fill it up.
Last order I only put one bag of Gp in it, I did not know if they would like it. Boy was that a mistake, They absolutely love GP.
I just gave them their last Gp this morning. I was not going to give it to them but every time I opened the freezer Blue kept scratching at the bag and trying to steal it. SO I gave it to him. It was frozen but he did not care.

Rabbit is the only thing I gut and skin. Chicken and quail I semi pluck. Then I just toss it in the cage whole.
