abbeytheferret can you tell me what the recipe for the soup is??? I'm interested in switching to raw...at the moment both my fetrets are eating zupreem premium which I wanna get them off of because of the peas in it and the fact its not rated very good on the food chart... I tried switching the to digestive support from wysong but they wont eat but a few pieces if I'm lucky and seemed to make their poops a lil runny so thats another reason I'm wanting to switch to raw... my male ferrets poop looked perfect this morning for the first time in awhile,he had a gastrointestinal problem from some bacteria they found in his poop sample and gave him metrodazole or however you spell it...seemed to help a lil at first but then the poops started looking the same untill this morning which it looked picture perfect and I am assuming its from giving him some of the dream treats from wysong which I had to add some ferretvite mixed in to get him to eat it....it has good ingredients as far as the gut flora ingredients....gonna keep trying this hoping to get his poops normal all the time.. anybody have any suggestions for feeding raw

Raw soup recipe 8 oz raw skinless/boneless chicken 1 oz raw chicken liver (about half a liver) 1 oz raw chicken heart (about 2 hearts) ½ tsp. eggshell powder Water to thin Blend all ingredients until soupy. Freeze in ice cube trays to make easy-to-serve portions and reduce waste. Chicken is the most common protein to start a switch with, but any protein can be used. To grind eggshells, i use a cheap coffee grinder from walmart. I weigh my meat with postal scales that i have had forever.

Watch out, the bones have to be raw. You can also replace the egg shells with human grade bone meal. I use that, it's a lot easier, and it's nutritious.

if you have a grinder that will grind bones that would be great-----also do not go over amount called for with bonepowder. Have you tried giving them raw chicken wings or cornish hen pieces? the cornish hens can be gotten at walmart. you can cut some cornish hen ribs for them-- a couple together or three. cut some of the thigh meat away from the bone so they can access bone it easily. I feed mine rabbit ribs, too--- the legs r too dense for mine.

I think Wysong almost killed my ferrets when they changed the formula. Even though they came out with the digestive support formula and all that jazz, changing the formula like that without warning is seriously dangerous. I felt that it showed either complete ignorance about ferrets OR disregard for their well-being.
I switched to Orijen but I decided that I'm just not okay with kibble at all, so we're in raw transition. No one can really change what meat is made of..

Mine got crazy diarrhea. A great big vet bill and a course of antibiotics later, when I found out their food was the problem, I... wanted to smash things *

That is the problem without any guidelines for ferret food for manufacturers to follow they can put whatever they want in the food, they can change it at will. It is only about the bottom line and I don't believe they care about the well being of the ferret.
The extreme irresponsibility of these manufacturers made me switch to something I have more control over. And a big bonus it is healthier for them and does not cause teeth damage.

Wysong isn't as heartless as most pet food companies, but they were undeniably careless with the Wysong change. My ferrets don't miss kibble.

I beg to differ. They absolutely refused to refund my money for the last case of Food I bought from them. (the new formula food) And could care less that my ferrets were getting the runs from their food. Acted like there was something wrong with my ferrets.
My emails went into their ignore box.
All I got was a sample bag of digestive upset.
I never did feed the DU food I was already on raw.
Wysong used to be good, However I believe that they have went the way of all other food companies, switching to lower quality ingredients to increase their bottom line. Selling out their good name on now inferior products.

Them creating a new version of Ferret Epigen was their way of admitting they messed up without directly saying so. To this day though they won't admit they were wrong and caused harm. Their company does advocate raw feeding though, which is more than can be said for most pet food companies.

A lot of people like Wysong but their company & practises really rub me the wrong way... when it comes to a commercial company its not just about the ingredients and the analysis on the bag, its whether you trust the company enough with the food your pets are eating. For this reason Rolo has basically always been an Orijen ferret, and a "pre-made raw" ferret. Orijen has changed their formula twice in the time I fed Rolo, but each time significantly for the better and Rolo has taken to every formula change.
Actually, their first formula HAD to be blended with other high-end kibbles or it would give Rolo soft stools - because it used to only be 70% meat. After the first change it went to 80% meat and I've never had to mix it with any other kibbles since then. So yeah if you're thinking of sticking with kibble I highly recommend them.
