has nothing to do with raw diet. if he is intact, it sounds like he is just wanting to mate. if he is neutered, he may have adrenal disease.

if you can please revise the title of this thread because it is a very common misconception among non-raw feeders that their pets will become aggressive if they feed a raw diet. we do not want anyone having the wrong idea. the kibble companies do snoop around in the raw feeding communities. they would just love to latch onto a thread like this and quote it elsewhere to further their purpose.

Thanks everyone!! that's like a massive load off my chest. But I do feel so sorry for all the female ferrets out there that have to deal with any horny aggressive males D: the dragging, biting and pulling...ouch.

I'll change the Title for you. I'll just change it to Question about an Intact Hob.
How's your naughty boy today? I would love to see an Intact Hob. I know one breeder, but she doesn't live close to me. I love hearing the stories though. It must be very interesting living with them.

Yay ty Haha he's good He escaped his cage and snuck into the house again (he lives outside) oh if you want pictures there's some on his Instagram @ballsyferret but really he just looks like any other ferret :/ Yup life with him does get pretty interesting :'D he follows everyone everywhere and trips people up when he gets under their feet. He's a funny little guy. But he's my first ferret so who knows? maybe all fuzzies are that way He's pretty much the same in rut and out of rut minus the pee soaked carpets and occasional aggressiveness oh wait nope he also rubs against everything like a cat, grooms himself constantly, is a lot more vocal and drags me places D:

Thérèse lives in Australia. I know it's a very big place, but she is familiar with the Ferret Community there and might know of some clubs or groups that would interest you.

Well around here the big mill, Marshalls, is pretty much where every ferret comes from. Unless you get from a private breeder, you're not gonna get an intact ferret.

Here in the States, the only way to get an Intact Hob is from a Breeder.
You will hear alot about Marshall's on the Forum. The majority of our Pet Store ferrets come from Marshall's in New York. Marshall's is basically a Ferret mill and they make kibble and all things Ferret related.
Three of mine are Marshall's, and I don't know where the other two came from. They were rescues.

Oh I see.... I heard some bad things about Marshall though Their ferrets get desexed too early for one ( ferrets used for experimentation, inbreeding, etc. I know they've made changes though Its so good you're rescuing I would if I could except there are no ferrets in shelters near me :/ so Cashew came from a private breeder. Wow 5 ferrets must be a handful

Howdy. Yes I am in Australia and also in NSW, although only technically. I live in Queanbeyan which while in NSW, is so close to Canberra that it is more like living in a suburb of Canberra.
If you are in the Sydney region the NSW Ferret Welfare Society is your best bet for ferret culture. They rescue and put the rescues up for adoption, they hold meetings every month at varying places in the region. They are somewhat resistant to a raw diet, so don't listen to their ideas on that. There are also some smaller ferret associations I think along the coast and in the Blue mountains. I could probably track down details of them although I have never had anything to do with them. I was a member of the NSWFWS for over 10 years (although it's currently lapsed) and have only been to one meeting (it is a fair hike from me) but I always enjoyed their newsletter and I still check the adoptions on their website. I also met some of them back when there were a couple of pet expos in Canberra that they had a stand at, at the IFCA ferret health symposiums that were held a few years back (1st in Melbourne and 2nd in Sydney) and one of my ferrets through the years came from them (so met his caretaker when I did the trip to Sydney to get him).
In Aus. luckily we have no ferret mills so nearly all ferrets come intact (except those adopted through rescues like the NSWFWS or the RSPCA). However not all breeders are created equal and so it doesn't necessarily mean a good healthy ferret. Years back you could be safe about an animal not be desexed absurdly young as no vet would desex an animal under 6mo. This is no longer the case and I have seen places like the RSPCA advertise kittens and other animals as desexed at 2mo. So if you are getting a desexed ferret do check when it was done.
