1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
actually from this site lol, I have done supplimentaly raw for my dogs for years, but am new to owning ferrets. I started researching what they eat, and natural supps for them when i came across this
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
i would prefer to raw, as i dont have the stomach to do whole prey, live or dead. I eat mostly vegetarian for myself, as i feel it`s the healthest for me, and want what is healthest for my pets based on what they `should` naturally eat. Even though i gag through the whole grinding process :DI`ve already started the process but need help moving to chunks. Everything is ground up for them now.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
did explain that a bit aready lol. I feel it`s the healthest for them.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
Yes, i already have a freezer full of meat, from mushed met to chicken wings and thighs, and no major changes in the foreseen future
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight?
We have 3 ferrets:
Zeke is 2 male and over weight, no known health issues was strictly dry food fed when we got him.
Sadie is a rescue, 3, female, under weight with LOTS of energy lol, no known health issues.
Trixie is a rescue aprox 6 yr old female, under weight, recently diagnosised with insulinoma and lymphomia.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
currently they are on duck soup mixed with raw meats that ground up to mush. it consists of liver, lamb, chicken, hearts and gizards. They get it twice a day (not trixie she gets soup every 2 hrs, mixed with either raw, babyfood or a high protien cat food from the vet) They are still getting dry food, as there is always food in the cage either dry or left over soup.
poor kids get no treats lol, they do get ferretone in the soup
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
just been doing for about 2 weeks, and holding at the mush stage. They will all eat it mixed with soup no questions asked, once anything big enough to chew is in it they run and stash it LOL though zeke will `chew`it a bit before dropping it and coming back to the soup dish.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
we have dogs that get raw supps several times a week. oh and lick up anything ther ferrets drop lol. they are loving this switch. So i`m not unfamiliar with the concept, however with dogs they jumped at the chance to eat raw, the part that i want help with is helping the ferrets accept it as real food.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
usually daily
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
