Okay, so I figure that everyone can learn a lot from this process, so I'm going to *try* to be good and document it all as well as I can as we go. As many of you know, Shane and I are moving from Anchorage, Alaska to Seattle, Washington in just over 4 weeks as part of our medical school adventure. This means the critters are being pulled along on the big adventure with us! Traveling with pets is no joke, and a LOT of preparation goes into this.
I grew up in the Army. We moved almost yearly, usually with dogs and small children in tow. Much of this is just routine to me by now, but a lot of it is new. This is my first time towing, my first time driving the AlCan (Alaska-Canadian Highway) behind the wheel (I've made the trek in the passenger seat countless times though, so I know well how long and treacherous the route is), and my first time traveling with exotics. We will be taking our 2 snakes, Shiiva (5.5 yr old Ball Python), Pluto (4 year old Corn Snake) and of course Koda and Kenai.
Meet Shiiva:
Pluto:
and of course!!!!
Koda:
and Kenai:
Oh and why not, here's a family pic (minus the slithers)
We will be leaving on July 28th and making 2 stops along the way. First, we will stop in Calgary and meat the Had Honcho herself Sherry! (dance) Then we will be stopping in Idaho to visit with some family for a few days (hopefully - travel time depending as we only have the trailer for 8 days) and then on to Seattle! In Washington we will get to meet @cherieholmgren and @yureiavalon so that will be super exciting.
This is the route that we will be taking....
The boys are very used to traveling. Every summer we travel from Anchorage to Fairbanks (6hr drive) at least once, and we spend most of the summer traveling back and forth between home and Shane's family's cabin 3 hours out of town. As such, they are both well acquainted with car rides and we already have a tried and tested Travel Cage.

(Apparently some of the pics disappeared...I'll work on fixing that!)
It's less relevant for this forum, but I will post some pics of the set ups for the snakes as well once we get them done.
I currently have a message at the vet that I'm waiting to hear back on for ordering the boys' newest round of Des implants. It's cutting it much closer than I would like RE ordering them, but finances are tight so I postponed ordering them until we were a little closer to the deadline so I'd have a better idea of what our funds are going to be.
We will be getting rabies shots for the boys, Des implants, and exams and Health Certificates for all 4 critters.
