I gave the boys their Des implants last night. More on that later but it went pretty smoothly overall. Just got to the vet for health checks, I will of course take pics and upload them later. Boys are getting rabies, everyone is getting a checkup and health certificate. Boys might need some flea/tick meds too *sigh* I'm going to miss living in AK where we don't have to worry about that stuff.

Des Implants: I did the boys' implants myself last night. It went relatively smoothly, esp for a first time. Their skin man...freaking leather. Koda I did his implant too high, so I can't feel it bc it's in his scruff where the skin is thick which makes me nervous, but I checked and Shane is 100% sure the implant went in and stayed in and I'm at least 80% sure. It didn't fall out, I for sure had the needle in all the way and NOT back out the other side, it just makes me nervous that I can't feel it. Cherie said she can't feel her Mickey's implant either though in hi scruff - their scruffs are so thick. Worst case it's not there (and really I'm not sure why it wouldn't be bc it didn't fall out, I looked all around just in case and it was def out of the needle) and in a few months Koda will start mounting Kenai and I'll harpoon him again. I'm fairly certain it's in there though. Then on poor Koda I accidentally globbed the glue too hard which made me pretty embarrassed at the vet bc he has a giant glue glob on his back. Kenai was a lot wigglier as per his nature, and he managed to get his head all the way back round while the needle was in. BUT I did his lower and I can feel it for sure so I know it's in there. I had to poke him 2x bc the first time the needle didn't go in deep enough and slipped out, but I can for sure feel his implant and he has a much more reasonable glue dot. lol (dance)

Vet Visit: Critters have been vetted! Boys both got rabies and that went well. Kenai was shaking the whole time though, poor baby. They both checked out fine, and the vet gave Benadryl before the vaccines which I was glad for. She said that they have been seeing more and more Rabies vaccine reactions btw - so heads up to everyone. No signs of a reaction. Koda hardly noticed the benadryl or the vaccine bc I gave him salmon oil, but Kenai was NOT taking bribes today. He did okay though and got lots of snuggles. The Benadryl zonked them out pretty good and it's been a big couple of days anyways so they are snoozing in their cage now. The vet was Super impressed with Shiiva, even though she is (go figure) in shed. *proud mamma face* She said they don't usually get to see them that big (and healthy). Both snakes checked out good, and she said Pluto looked super healthy. Shiiva she almost called fat. LOL Aaaaand the big news of the day: Pluto got probed......... And "He" is a She! Hahaha So now we have a nice balanced household of 2 male fuzzards and 2 female slithers! The boys and the girls! Pics to come - I am uploading them now but my internet is being slow. :/

I don't know why everyone always complains about fleas. I've never had fleas with the ferrets and we only ever had them once when we had a dog and cats growing up. But the ferrets barely leave the house and I don't allow people to visit with dogs/cats anyway so they *shouldn't* come in contact with any fleas. I can't imagine it being a problem down here for you Katt unless you take them outside a lot or have dogs/cats that go out.

Go figure. The Benadryl that zonked the boys out ALL day conveniently wore off right at bedtime. Now Koda is cage raging... *sigh*

Tomorrow (well, today technically) is the day! Getting up at 7am to pick up the trailer, load it up, take a shower and take off! The boys are snug in their travel cage which I made a few modifications to. Packing up I swear they have more stuff than I do....cage, 2 playpens, kennel carrier, travel cage, toys, tunnels, multiple boxes of bedding.... Can you say spoiled?! The snakes are in their travel tubs and quite unhappy about it. The boys are going to be pretty unhappy for the next 2 days too when they realize they can't come out of their cage. :/ Hopefully we don't have too much cage raging... I'd love to find a few spots where we can take them out for a short walk, but you never know what diseases (distemper....) local or fellow traveling animals might have left behind. Luckily on Day 2 they will get to get out and play and stretch when we stop to visit Sherry. (dance)

Good luck and hope all goes well.
Probably a bit late to suggest, seeing as you are packed and ready to go but maybe someone reading this when doing the same thing may appreciate the suggestion.
For stretching legs on stops but to avoid unknown disease, would a playpen that had a bottom allow that a bit?

UPDATE: Making horrible progress. Bad weather, bad roads. Made it to Canada and popped a flat 20mi past Beaver Creek (town just over the border). Took 3-4 hours to get it back to Beaver Creek (thank Heavens for Fix a Flat and bike tire pump!!). Got it fixed and then hit horrendous roads and construction. JUST got into Whitehorse and same tires went flat again. At the tire shop (yay wifi) to see what we need to do. Don't want to drive the rest of the way on our spare....
The boys are behaving beautifully so far. Sleeping most of the way, drinking lots of water. Poor babies. Snakes got cold when we had the first flat bc we had the doors open a bunch trying to find the Fix A Flat, and the heat packs I bought are absolute crap and I haven't been able to find more. I have a few good heat packs but they are old so a few of those were trash.

Hopefully nothing else happens on your way. I know you said "big adventure" but didn't expect it to be "quite" so big just yet.
