I just ordered 3/4 of a pound of Carnivore Care and 6oz of KMR Kitten Milk Replacer, my goal is to get Neichei to gain some weight. I would love for her to gain about half a pound (she's under 1 pound) but anyways, I just thought I would ask if anyone on here has ever used Carnivore Care before? And if so, how has it helped? It will take a week or so to get it most likely, but I will be weighing her weekly after I get it so I can see what she gains, when she starts gaining I will be sure to post and let you guys know. Max loves that crap. It helped him gain a little weight post-surgery for sure. I mixed it with beef baby food and warm water for liquidy soup while he was recovering. Before he would eat it on his own I used a syringe, but it only took one scruff for him to realize he liked it and a few more sessions before he was readily slurping from his own bowl. Not sure about it long-term because it isn't nutritionally balanced on its own obviously, but I still give it in water as a liquid treat every now and then, and as supplementals before I take Max out to play to make sure he's good on BG. I'd definitely recommend! Be prepared though--it reeks!  Once I heated it up in the microwave instead of using hot water and it was bad. My boyfriend wanted to kill me, hahah. It also says to refrigerate and that you can only keep it 7 days after opening but honestly I keep it in the fridge for awhile and haven't had any problems. Pretty cheap on amazon. |

My first question is: Does your little one really need to put on weight? Wee sprites/jills are tiny and are meant to be small. I've had a number of sprites who barely make the pound mark and expecting a wee one to put on half a pound that's extreme. You're asking her to gain over half her weight.
Carnivore care is a good supplement for sickies, same as baby food but as a healthy additive to put on weight on a healthy ferret, I'm not so sure. I would be much happier if you looked into introducing more fats and looking deeper into her dietary needs rather than reaching for a supplement

I would be much happier if you looked into introducing more fats and looking deeper into her dietary needs rather than reaching for a supplement ciao Heather, Neichi is not a healthy ferret, Julesalot has 2 sickies at the moment, so I may be confusing them but I think Neichei is the one that was really sick before Easter, so much so, that she was worried that it was time. She is now on diazoxide (or whatever that dia med is) and is doing a bit better. Even though Spring brings weightloss, I do believe Neichi's lost some weight due to her health issues and it is this she is trying to rectify. Wishing you luck with both your sick wee ones Julesalot, you are still all in my thoughts. Unfortunately I have no experience with Carnivore Care but hope you can find ways to help both your sickies, Neichi and Juliet be happy and comfortable for as long as they are with you |

Yes Neichei is sickly, she lost almost 20% of her weight in the past few weeks, the vet told me she was underweight and gave me some tips on getting her to gain it back. The fact that her hair is falling put doesn't help either.

No, Nechei has had insulinoma for over a year now. She's on prednisone and diazoxide but she had started losing weight right before she got her diazoxide, though she's getting better with the new meds.

I used it for Pippin when he had cancer. It was literally a life-saver, and allowed him to have time for the medicine to work. He went into remission for months, but ultimately it came back.
Honestly, I think it's very important for ferrets to acquire a taste for this stuff. Two of my first ferrets were very sick, and it wasn't for carnivore care I don't think they would have had nearly the life that they had. Ferrets can go downhill very fast, and if they learn to like the taste of this stuff, it can make all the difference when they are very sick. It will feel like a treat to them while possibly saving their life.

I always keep some in the house. I give a little to them at least once a month to keep them used to eating it that way if something happens that requires me to have to feed it to them they will still eat it.
It is great for short term post op feeding. Or when your ferret can't or wont eat. easy to syringe feed and easy for them to eat and digest. I think it is mostly egg yolk protein and fat.

No, I agree for a sickie it can be a god-send. I used it heavily for Aremis and Nicodemus (lymphoma and cancerous adrenal) It did buy time. I started making my own bone soup but would continue to use the carnivore care when using baby foods.

It came in the mail (finally) Just put a bowl of it in Neichei's cage, she's lapping it up like it's candy. Hopefully she will put some weight on.  |

I used it when my female was sick a few months ago. She did not want to eat anything. I'm not sure if you'll gain weight with it because mine did not but It allowed me to keep her weight stable. Some people advice to give your ferret horse if you want them to gain weight.

It's official. Carnivore Care IS heaven sent! Here is a picture of Neichei's weight gain from May 3rd to May 13th. Just 10 days. I know it isn't a lot, but it's something, and it makes me so happy  |
