PV's or Path Valleys....are a hoot, they are . My second ferret was a Path Valley....they are sweet, loving, bigger, smarter, more inventive, taste through their teeth, have long memories, do not take well to being disciplined and will try you every step of the way. I wouldn't have traded my PV's for anything in the world. I love them dearly. Marshals are truly a beginner's fuzz. They have a tendency to be smaller, more mellow, less nippy as kits (note that I did mention have a tendency, I have Lady Natasha who would gladly give any PV a run for their money, except she's less than a pound in weight and though she bites and bites hard...she doesn't have the jaw strength to do any damage...unless she gets you in the nail bed of your finger: . I usually tell people that PV's are not usually a good beginner's ferret. They can be a handful and might I suggest that if you do choose a PV, don't get just one. You won't be able to keep up with the little hooligan. I don't like Marshals for a number of reasons, but they do offer a mellow, usually sweet natured fuzz. If you do choose a Marshals kit, be aware that lately they've been producing kits with jaw and skull problems. Make sure that your little one can open their jaws full size (give big expansive yawns...think like a snake ;D) Other than that....choose what you will. Boys are often more snuggly than girls (not as kits mind you ) Good luck, I can't wait to see the photos ;D ;D ciao

Actually, you hit the nail on the head Sherry! That was my original idea from the beginning, because I wanted to be as matched to my ferret as possible for both of us to be happy. Unfortunetly we haven't found a ferret shelter yet. My fiance found this website, but I don't think this is a shelter at all. I think this is a place to post for people trying to rehome ferrets. adoption.ferretalk.com/ferretbbs/I would have to imagine with Tokyo being the heart of Japan, it has a shelter just for ferrets SOMEWHERE...but we haven't found it yet. Also, I haven't recieved an email from the rescue I was contacting earlier for 3 days, so either they are crazy busy (very possible) or already homed the ferrets. I would be thrilled to find a loving ferret shelter in Tokyo, but I can't search in Japanese and my fiance's research skills aren't quite on par with mine...can't win!

Well, maybe check with that web site you've found. Although people tend to lie about everything with regularity(age, illness, behaviour), you should be able to see and handle the ferret being put up for adoption before taking him/her in. That will give you an idea of whether or not this ferret is calm, nippy, knows what a potty box is, etc. Just be cautious of one that is TOO calm and relaxed. That one is likely ill And if nothing looks to be working out there, or people simply don't want you coming into their home to see the ferret first, there's always the pet store. No one here will think any less of you for buying a kit. They need loving homes, too!

I'd look for the healthiest fuzzy. Check their ears for mites, eyes and nose for discharge. Sometimes they'll use the bathroom while you're there, so check to make sure they're having well formed stools. Other than that, I'd pick a kit that is active, energetic, and full of life Also, just know, blazes, DEWs, and pandas have a tendency to be deaf.

Understood. Thank you for being so wonderful and understanding! I am checking everything out, and we'll see what works our best when the big day comes next month. By the way I made a post of some of the cute Japanese ferret things I have been finding while shopping for the basics we will need, please check it out! ^_^

The most important thing at all about this forum- YOU HAVE TO POST PICTURES WHEN YOU GET YOUR FERRET!!!! [glow=purple,2,300]I promise![/glow] I LOVE pictures...and video! I'll probably take a million photos when we adopt the baby. If I can talk my (very shy) fiance into it, i'll try to post a family picture too. I might even put a video together if the little one is doing enough cute things for me to catch with my camera.

Koiwa: www.koiwa-pet.com/32food/food-fer.htmlHas EVO ferret food. This is the food I would most recommend to you. This is the food name in Japanese (also in English on the cover): イノーバ エボ フェレットフード This is high protein, low carb, no grains. If I weren't feeding raw, I would feed something like this. Can't tell if this is shop or shelter or a little of both. Mostly shop I think. But darn it, she houses those ferrets well and they are adorable! www.ferret-world.jp/I found a vet, haha. Everything but shelter so far. www.igusa-animal.com/

W-O-W! Arigatou gozaimasu, novemberkris! You have been a tremendous help! Is that vet in Tokyo? We actually live in Saitama prefecture, in a city called Ageo. Tokyo is not too far from us, but we have to take a train to Tokyo and if it is an emergency im worried if the ferret can wait 30 minutes to an hour on a train. Not to mention train schedules and what-not. I wonder if there is a vet close to us who will see ferrets. I am going to start that research by asking if my future in-laws vet, who sees their Maltese, will also see ferrets. It's a hit and miss getting an opportunity to ask because they don't understand English so my fiance has to be the translator. I am also trying to work out exactly where www.ferret-world.jp/ is located, and how far it is from where we live. If it is in Tokyo somewhere, im sure we can find it. Would you recomend ferret world over Koiwa? Koiwa has baby ferrets as well, I had been checking there up until this point. www.koiwa-pet.com/05fer/fer.htmlAs for the food, I will tell my fiance about that brand and see if our local store can special order for us. If not, we can always order online! I am so happy to have a food recommendation! I know a quality food is key to a healthy ferret. You are what you eat, after all.

Great news! I would also recommend feeding the kibble moistened. It won't last as long out, but it will keep your baby hydrated more.

I -THINK- I found the ferret shops as well from Ferret World, I am pumped up about visiting them! I hope they are not too difficult to find, because neither I nor my fiance have any sense of direction. Doh. But he has GPS in his iphone so we should be able to manage. www.rakuten.ne.jp/gold/petpet/pgs/top/image/top-shoplist-f.htmlnovemberkris Maybe you can confirm for me which one has the well cared for baby ferrets you mentioned? If she is a super caring person, maybe she'll be nice enough to suggest a ferret for me that would fit my personality...well...as best you can sense babies are babies! Who knows? She might even have adults hiding there too? You are an absolute lifesaver novemberkris! I owe you big time!
