I have one ferret that I am really hoping to switch to raw. Though I wouldn't mind making him soups all the time. (seems less gross to me.... i have issues with raw meat) Its better for him than any kibble I'm going to find. I would like to know what kind of soups I can make him to start that will have everything he needs in them. I plan to have his kibble available until i notice if he's not eating it anymore. suggestions? i'm new at this and want to make sure i have all the info i need before i just jump in. Thanks!

What are your issues with raw meat if you don't mind me asking?
Soup is generally ok for initially switching and sick/old ferrets but your ferret will need bone in meals for their teeth at least. what would you put in the soup?

Although yes, they could survive on soup, he really does need actual bone, even if ground up. Eggshell powder is only meant as a temperary thing, and the vast majority of bone meal powder is from cooked bone powdered up very fine. If you can afford the cost, you could always do a commercial raw. Alternately, here is a thread listing the basic needs: holisticferret60.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=meat&thread=146&page=1

i have always had a thing with textures. there are certain ones that make me gag. raw meat is one of them. i'm not afraid of it or anything i mean i can handle it if i do it quick. if i gag too much i get sick. its just a weird quirk. the soup i make him just as a treat is ground up kibble baby food meat and a little pumpkin. thats just a treat.

Can you use gloves to handle it? I have some vegitarian friends who believe that even though meat is not their choice it is the best thing for their little carnivore friends. They use gloves to handle the meat because everything about meat makes them ill. The one lady actually used nose plugs because she can't stand the smell ciao

I was going to suggest gloves too. I hate handling ground anything just because of the way it gets stuck everywhere on my hands. I made a huge batch of meatballs this morning while wearing gloves!

I don't touch my raw while I'm serving it to them but I do get covered in it when I'm cutting it up and portioning it, you could pay a little extra for your butcher to do that for you though, that way you just empty a bag for the meal and you won't have to touch anything.

If you're going to do that, you might as well feed balanced and get commercial. You don't ever have to touch it except to thaw and put in a bowl ciao
