I'm sobbing trying to put this into words. I don't even know if I can, I'm having a hard time keeping it all straight in my brain.
It happened soooo fast. Too fast, I can't keep up.
This morning I had to have Murtagh PTS
Thursday he was fine, Friday morning he was fine. I got off work at 2:30 on Friday, and when I got home, he was crashing.
My first thought was insulinoma -- he had all the low blood sugar signs, I suspected I caught him coming out of a seizure.
I rushed him to the vet, they gave fluids and LOTS of meds, we were there a VERY long time. But it was not insulinoma
So the vet eventually said Helicobacter, but I think they they were grasping at straws now... I had lots of meds, and directions to push food & fluids every 3 hours, so I set my alarms, but I didn't sleep well last night. I was up with him.
The vet said next 48 hours are critical, and touch and go if he makes it, and that if he does not get better in the next 24 hours, he will likely not make it to the 48 hour mark. I was shocked, but hopeful. I couldn't see how that could be right. But it was
He started seizing early this morning, so I rushed him back in. After he stopped seizing his temp was so low, it wouldn't even register on the digital thermometer. Despite me getting up every 2-3 hours to push fluids (water/pedialyte) and baby food soupy he was SO dehydrated they couldn't get a vein for an IV. So, apparently last nights IV and SubQ fluids & meds didn't make much difference, either.
Also, when they shaved him (in 3 spots to try for the IV) the insides of his legs were already bruised Vet at this point also suspects internal bleeding.
So, this morning's doc strongly, strongly suspected cancer. High heart rate and low temp really doesn't add up. He tried really hard to get the dye for xrays. What I saw when he showed me, is it looked like someone sprinkled glitter all over his insides
At this point I had to make the decision to let him go... with his temp so low, and him being THAT dehydrated I knew this was not something he would bounce back from, regardless of what "it" is that's caused all this. I considered a necropsy, but at this point it doesn't even matter. We didn't even wait for the blood tests to get back. It was pretty much I help him not to be in pain asap, or he the hard way because his heartbeat was "shuddering" with his tremors.
My sweet, cuddly, pita baby boy is gone Stolen from me, too young. It's so not fair. He was a picture of health Thursday, being his typical ferrety self, he didn't act sick or anything. It all happened sooo fast... I feel like I don't even know what happened
I'm sorry to post like this, I'm just having a very hard time right now.
