Heather! I know exactly what you mean... I hate it too, but for me, breeder kit was out of the question. Didn't even know where to look. I drove 5 hours to the pet store... And yep, def more health problems with them...

I know where you're at with the health issues. 13 ferrets in house. 9 of those are farm ferrets...I'm treating 9 sick ferrets *-_-or at least 9 ferrets with severe to life threatening health issues Sorry...changed this. As Odin says not to include him in this...and he's right. I've got 8 farm ferrets. Odin is a breeder's ferret...a BYB...but a breeder's ferret just the same and as he says there's nothing wrong with him. He's just old...10 yrs is a good life for a ferret ciao

When i was looking into getting sugar gliders before I had to be careful what breeders to go to because of the health issues. I would like a ferret because my uncle had them when i was growing up and i always thought they were really neat animals. I just want a nice healthy ferret that i can bond with. I think i would end up getting a pair so they would be able to play together.

genetics can play a lot with health issues but so can diet if you get them young enough and bang in good stuff the natural diet ( meat bones fur feather offal meats ect ) regulate the lighting to keep it as near natural as possible simply think like a ferret in the wild ! normally they eat at dusk to dawn sleep most of the day in a dark place like in a log or down a deserted rabbit warren so offer hidey holes for them to sleep in during the daylight hours when its light outside they can have light when its dark outside there in darkness just doing simple things can help towards lessening the onset of adrenal I am not saying its a cure all nothing is but it COULD help if you get a store ferret just my two pennies worth take care bye for now Bev

[/IMG] I think it would rather interesting just what Sonny could teach a little brother or sister ciao
There would be various lessons: Breaking picture frames and remote controls Killing lizards Eating ants (his new thing. He thinks he is an anteater now. In Florida we get these little ants in the house. So he eats those now) Stealing the dog's toys Biting Bri-butt (my husband Brian) Hissing at g-ma when she goes into the bathroom

Sonny has such a funny personality, sometimes I wish my ferrets were as bratty as him... None of mine hiss at people ;D

You need to come here if you want to be hissed at. I startled Lady Morgain just a few minutes ago....I was told and as an exclamation point she let one go too ciao

If my mom comes over and goes to use the bathroom, he runs in after her then he jumps in the tub where he has all of his "stuff"- if she looks in the tub he hisses at her. i guess he thinks she wants his toys. LOL.

Do you think he would share his toys with a new brother or sister? If he did you know it's love, if even his favourite people get told off for just looking into "his" tub ciao

Hi....Melinda just pm'd you, did not realize you were already on here. I rarely ship and truthfully have never shipped to a first time ferret owner. BTW there is a Finn bro in Florida and another boy with him from a different litter that year. Ha! now Sonny's mom is going to be going WHAT?? hehe It's difficult and terrifying on my part to ship as even though you go through everything you can you still have the uncertainty of if it will all go ok. For me I have to go to a hub which is in Seattle 4 hours away. Shipping has to go from major hub to another one, be in the cooler parts of the year and costs alot these days. It's also hard on the little guys. Not out of the question but I have to know exactly where and to who they are going. It was so much easier when ferrets were allowed in cabin with you on Delta. So, I am planning on repeating the "Finn" breeding this spring as mama is getting older and I would like one more litter from her. I would consider shipping to you on here that I know. Wish you could find a shelter Melinda to go to to see about them first as like I say to everyone ferrets aren't for everyone and you won't know until you have one if they are or not. The problem is if a kit doesn't work out then it is very hard to get the kit back here.

If he did you know it's love, if even his favourite people get told off for just looking into "his" tub ciao I highly doubt he would ever share his toys. Certainly not any of his sock monkeys! He is obsessed with those. but as soon as you grab a toy that he has had NO interest in and has not played with for months....all of a sudden THAT is his favorite one and he wants it back!
