I think I'm going to be feeding this brand due to the fact that a store near me sells it and they have so many different protein sources. I like this brand but it has some things in it that I'm not sure about. Like pumpkin seeds? Are those ok for ferrets to have? Also the canine formulas have taurine in the ingredient list but is it a sufficient amount for ferrets? Should I try to get my future ferts to eat a chicken heart here and there as well? Thanks for any tips.

My local petco sells natures variety in chicken, beef, lamb, venison, rabbit, and bison. (For dogs). The lamb and rabbit did not have pumpkin seeds in them, but the bison did. Just a thought- check the varieties.

Noah- do you mean chunks of seed, or ground? Because the ground is fine. And as long as there is heart, there is taurine. I'm not familiar with S & C frozen raw, but their freeze dried is balanced.

And yes, you can certainly feed a meal of hearts a week as well

There are no feline frozen s & c only canine. I use the canine version. It is suitable and balanced for ferrets. Never found any pumpkin seeds. They are ground up.

I believe I read on here that the Natures Variety has whole/chunks of pumpkin seed in it. I could be wrong, and they are ground- but because I thought I read that on here I chose to stay away from the pumpkin seeds all together.

There was a problem with the NV freeze dried raw at one point. I'd heard that had been resolved though.

I've fed the frozen raw Stella and chewys to my dogs before and never noticed like big chunks of anything, but I never really looked that closely either. I like the Stella and chewy because a couple of there flavors have multiple protein sources in them, whig means lots of variety.

I feed both NVI and S&C's. The pumpkin seeds are ground, so it's ok to use. It also has sufficient taurine from what I can tell. My kids seem to do good on it anyway. I would recommend using the surf and turf flavor if you can for the fish oils for better coat condition, or supplementing with some sort of fish oil. Mine could stand to have a glossier coat IMO.
