Lisa since it is spring/summer now in Aus the hair loss underneath the tail sounds normal. are they shedding their winter coats? I am glad that Samson is not an "Uncle Dad"! What a relief!

I think my ferrets work in reverse to the seasons with their coats. As you know they are indoor and 99% of the time free roam so the aircon is on most of the time. Bella shed her coat but now has beautiful, soft, white winter coat LOL. The kits are 7 months old now and were born very late in the last breeding season, Samson blew his baby coat and he also has lovely long fur. Sassy has been going through this phantom so her coat has been horrible, course and wirey but she is now changing hers as well and the tail spot has grown back nicely. I think the implant also played a part in both the coat change and her phantom as that's when all the changes started happening. just a guess though.

I've been doing some reading about the DES and bringing jills out. Seemingly, the jills do appear to go into season and then phantom as though they've been with a v-hob or been given a jill jab. I don't know if that happens all the time but seemingly it's been noted a number of times. I know that Lady Morgain put on a beautiful coat after her phantom. ciao
