You won't really know for sure until after her 42 days are up. Lady Morgain even went as far as making a nest and getting ready for her air babies. I have to admit, it did make me a bit nervous ;D She was right up to that point, her usual high energy, grumpy self. ciao

be warned even with imaginary air babies 7 days before due date there temper can change they can become protective of there nest area and may become a little grumpy ( to them this is the real deal hormones are going into over drive ) so if you do get an odd nip dont worry she will soon return to her sweet kissy self take care bye for now Bev

My head's all over the place at the moment with Sassy, I think I just need to write it out and hopefully it will make sense to someone. Today is day 37 post suprelorin 4.7 implant used for chemical castration. Initially Sassy was 830 grams (1.83 pounds) today she is 1.2Kgs (2.64 pounds) - yes her nipple were pink and enlarged but now are normal again. I thought and maybe still think that it's a phantom pregnancy. When she goes to sleep in her cage she prefers to be alone in a strawberry type enclosed bed which she stuffs with puppy training pads and occasionally the odd blanket. In the past 24 hours she has had some funky poops, some yellow and jelly like consistancy indicative of a blockage, I gave her pumpkin and today, although they are not huge poops are back to normal colour and consistncy of a raw fed ferret, nothing in them at all when squished. I also found mid way up her tail a bald spot, quite long in length but not wide - there are no blackheads to be seen or skin rashes. Her coat is course and short, unlike her bioligical brother (from the same litter) and unlike Bellas, they are all on the same diet - Frankenprey so its not diet. Im trying to justify all these signs - maybe she is finally blowing her very first coat and its started at the tail (BTW they are 7 months old). Could I have been wrong about the phantom and could it be an enlarged spleen? what else would cause such weight gain in 30 days? In herself she is fine, she eats and plays normally, a little more cuddly but thats because I tend to mother her a little more atm. Im the type to run to the vet the second i think something is wrong but this time i just assumed it was the phantom - 5 days to go - not sure i can wait that long, i keep second guessing myself. Thoughts anyone?

A phantom will give all the signs of a pregnancy and she certainly does sound pregers. The one thing that bothers me more than anything would be the implant if she is indeed pregnant. Like I said Lady Morgain went through everything, the thinning of the fur, the change of the coat, the enlarged pink nipples....the increased eating, weight gain, quite a round belly....even the funky poops that seem to occur just prior to birthing. Unfortunately, you will just have to wait out those 5 days unless you take her to the vet for an exam. I'm sure at this stage of the game your vet could tell you positively if she's pregers. Good luck, hang in there. ciao

Just thought of something too.....Azrael, had an implant just about the time your wee girlie did...his coat has thinned extensively and it's coarse and gross feeling. I know he's not pregers ....maybe it's the implant. ciao

Hi there are a lot of things to factor in here ( possible phantom yes that explains weight gain funky coat and funky poops this close to the end ) implant ( sorry never used them so have no idea ) plus coat could be down to first major shed ( yes often they loose hair under tail first ) plus the fact its colder so they will be starting to put on winter weight ( weight gain ) as heather has said try and wait it out for five more days well 3-7 days as they can go two days early and 2 days late so anywhere from 40-44 days gestation good luck with your baby let us know how she does take care bye for now Bev

Thanks for you input guys, I will watch her closely and hang out the next few days. I dont want to offend any breeders on here but I will just die if she really is pregnant. Like I said earlier, Im part of a small rescue and Back Yard Breeding goes against what I believe in. Im very vocal against it and feel quite anxious that I could be contributing to the very thing I am so dead against. Let me just clarify, organised, knowledgable breeders that know their bloodlines and breed to improve the species - Im all for them. Unfortunately if Sassy is indeed pregnant would not fall into that category - Dilute sable with bib, mitts, knees OMG - freaking out much!!! Fingers crossed it is a phantom. This will be a long week.

I'm sure that no one will take offence. Accidents happen, consider it a learning experience rather than a tragedy. All things being right, she is in just a phantom to all phantoms and it will all be over come next week ciao

Its all over it would appear and very interesting. Sassy didnt have her 'air babies' - I dont think. She nested, she spent one full day in her nest, sleeping most of the time but didnt show any signs of stress or ownership of my other two fuzzies. It was like overnight everything fixed itself, her poops became normal, her tail hair is back to normal, she's lost some weight (not all) and she's acting fine. So glad it wasnt the real deal but still perplexed as to wether it was a phantom, guess I'll never know. Just glad my baby is back to her normal self.

I'm glad that your wee girlie is finished. That sounds like Lady Morgain to the "t" She nested, protected her nest, slept a lot, then in the morning...she greeted me at the cage door. Her nest was squished, her weight was back to normal and she was a happy wee fuzz. She didn't appear to be looking for her "airbabies". It just happened then it was done. No trauma, no stress. Lady Morgain waiting for her air babies....not stressed at all ;D Toward the end of her time, she had taken to sleeping on her back, she had put on a bit of weight. It was all gone within the week though and she was back to her crazy self. ciao

thanks for all the advice guys, it was much appreciated in a time of stress. No more scares for Miss Sassy, she will be spayed just before her implant is due to expire and so will Samson.
