Hi Guys,
What do you think about small animal playpens? I have three fuzzies and one is a kit. When we take them out to play we barricade off a part of the living room because I have a large dog and dint want him around when they are down playing. The dilemma I have is that it takes two if us to be on the floor with them because my kit and my younger one are constantly getting into trouble. I have a get type thing but the baby can get through the bars. I was thinking about getting a small animal playpen for when I am by myself and want to let the kids out to play. Does anyone else use these? Thanks for the help.

If you have climbers/jumpers, they have been known to escape ;D , but it would definitely be a plus for them and you to have. And I know what you mean by "getting into everything" ;D I've basically ferret proofed most of the house, but we still have to keep an eye out for them. Marshall's, I think, has a playpen that can be expanded from 8 panels to 11.

If I dont have climbers how tall does the playpen have to be. Ive seen them at petco but I they have different heights so I am not sure.

Out of the five ferrets I've had, only one had both the ability and the motivation to escape the playpen. They're not just good for playpen shapes -- you can open them up to block off large openings, or make it a fence around off-limit areas. We've mostly disassembled one of ours to have smaller sections to use around the house.
The two common playpen brands are Marshall and Prevue, which are pretty much identical. They both have optional mat/covers if you use them like a normal playpen.

Our playpen has proved to be valuable beyond what I paid. I don't have any that can climb it (yet!) and it's been great for staying over places, or for going outside with, or for closing off a part of the house that I don't want them in. I have a Marshall brand, but I understand there are other brands that are the same. It might help you with closing off that bit of the house

They have 15" high ones and 29" high ones. Is the 15" to short for them? I have a disasembled playpen at home but the bars are too far apart so the girls can escape through them.

I have the playpen mat from Marshall's (hate the brand, but it's the only one I could find with a cover from ferret.com, which is so cheap) and it doubles as a playpen COVER, to prevent escapes. If you got two you could have one under it as a mat, and one over it as a kind of lid. They're made of a really tough material.

I am going to get the Marshalls one at petco today, it is more than I want to spend but the husband and kids are going away for the night and I dont want to not be able to take the girls out to play so off to petco it is for me. Oh, and I think I need a bigger food bowl too since I have three girls now

I don't know about playpens. I have one. I got it so that Napoleon could play around and the others could see him and he could see them. It would also allow Mischief to play with Napoleon (Mischief chose baby Napoleon to be his friend) without interference from the rest of the business. I also felt that Napoleon was too tiny of a furbaby (7 weeks) to be playing with the rough and tumble brats (at that time they were all big PVs). That lasted 24 hrs. The brats all learned how to climb in with Napoleon and Mischief learned to climb out. So all the older fuzzes were coming and going at will and within the week they had taught Napoleon how to climb out. So the playpen got relegated to the basement. I wanted to open the office but keep the fuzzies out so I put it up closing off the doorway (that lasted about an hour). So, we thought if we put a ledge and then added another level we could keep them out. Guess not. If you have climbers or ferrets that are the least inventive...forget it. All my guys think nothing of scaling cages, beds, chairs.....for them it's not an issue. I don't think I have the only bratty fuzzes. If you check out these two video you will see what I mean ciao
