I have noticed with my four ferrets since switching to raw that they urinate more, but they are also drinking a lot less water. Is this because of all the moisture in raw? Maybe they don't have to drink as much to compensate, but because everything they eat is moist they produce more urine?

I think thats the case. I noticed that too. And the pee stinks more but the poop doesn't smell at all. Is that normal?

The poop is normal, for sure. The only day my kids' poo really stinks is on organ days. For the urine, I hope someone will be able to chime in!

Me too. I clean the litter every second or third day. But if I wait three days the pee is very noticeable. But not in a weird way, just a pee smell. And I used to have 4 ferrets, them all together never smelled that strong.

Hmm, I've never noticed urine smelling worse, but they definitely urinate more. Kibble ferrets are almost always dehydrated, and will never drink enough to fully hydrate them. Raw is 80% moisture so they really don't need to drink.

I'm not really sure if the urine smell has increased for me. But then again, I go in there and clean real good twice a day(once a day on the weekends as I have work). I try to keep it clean because Bomber likes to pee in the middle of the box, which all the girls have to step through on the way to their respective corners. lol!

The voiding does increase drastically because of the moisture content in the raw. Don't forget- with cats, they generally quit drinking entirely on raw, but still void more . And while ferrets don't stop drinking water entirely(their metabolism is too high for that), they do drink less than on kibbles. Once your guys adapt to the diet, they should slow down somewhat. Sort of like if you went from drinking 2 glasses of water a day, then suddenly started drinking 10. You'd be running constantly to the bathroom til your body adapted to the extra hydration.

I hope it slows down soon, because Bomber's pee puddles are huge(he's also a big boy at almost 4 lbs). I clean in there twice a day, but overnight it just turns into a big mushy mess of WBCL, right in the center of the litter box. He loves to pee in the middle, it's his favorite place to pee.

For the interim, make the litter deeper. With 4 using the one box(they won't use one elsewhere in the cage ), I make the litter about an inch deep.
