This is what happens when you buy a ferret on a whim and don't have enough money for a real cage. They end up free roaming for the first week until you can get wire mesh. Oh then it's not enough wire mesh so you have to use cardboard to cover up the openings. Who thought ferrets had so much upper body strength Anyhow, it works. And it was cheaper then the smaller cages they had. I'm slowly saving up for an FN

Hey if it works it works! If I get into the Medical School program that is y top choice, I will have to do some traveling. It is a program that includes 5 states WWAMI Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho. After your initial two years, your last 2 are spent doping rotations like any other Med school. But for the WWAMI program certain rotations are ONLY held in certain states/cities. They provide housing, but you still have to move every few months. Luckily I can do MOST of it at home but there are a few rotations I might need to go out of state for. If I do, I plan to get a large dog kennel and convert it into a cage similar to what you have set up, so my babies can stay with me everywhere I go. You've gotta do what you've gotta do and I am SURE your baby looooves the free roaming time! Btw your ferret is absolutely adorable!

Like katt said- you do what you've got to do! If you wanted, you could likely make some shelving to fit in there. Just pick up mdf wall shelves closest to the right size, and have them cut to fit, and c-clamp them into position

Or instead of C-Clamping do what we did in our old chinchilla cage. Take the boards and screw some long-ish screws into the sides so they stick out just a little. Insert cage at an angle and get it to the level you want. The screws act to rest on the bars and hold the shelf up. Not sure if my explanation is clear.... But it works very very well when done right.

I was thinking of putting a shelf in there, but the cleaning is hard enough as is right now. I'm also still trying to convince her that pooing in one corner only is good. So I'm going to be working on building a cage out of a shelf from wal-mart and poly netting. The only part I have to actually build would be the door frames, and that can't be hard
