So Teddy has absolutely no identifying tattoos that I can see. Katt was good enough to show me where to find an RC's bar in the ear and there isn't one on mine, there are no dots either so that rules out Real Canadian and Marshall Farms. The most I have to go on is that he was found near death as a kit in an apartment in Seattle, WA. I don't even know if any Path Valley's are sold in the Pacific Northwest. When I volunteered for a large shelter that shall remain anonymous, I got to handle RC's, MF's, and FFF (said "triple F"). I don't know if FFF is a local mill or not, has anyone else heard of them? Know if they have tattoos? So at this point I'm wondering if he was a BYB ferret sold at a pet shop or FFF or another local mill I know nothing about. Is there any way for me to track down his origins? Maybe I could contact a different shelter and they might know what goes on in Seattle. Ideas? I'm curious. I think I will take him in for a wellness exam, just to be checked out, in a month or so. No shots though. ETA: I just found Triple F's website - www.tripleffarms.com/index.php And they are in Northern PA, so, huh. I don't know why there were so many in the shelters here. Maybe that's our version of Path Valley? Triple F ferrets are pretty mean, and he's not mean at all though. Triple F's have a pink dot in the ear, which is often hard to see. I can't find one, though I'll look again.

I have a Petersen's ferret and she has no markings I've ever been able to find. Really no way to know with no background or markings.

I've got a rescue in California with no markings and I'd always wondered where she was from. I got her from a girl who had her for a year and she got het from a girl who had her for a year . Do any of these breeders feed raw whole prey ? Because Emily took to eating raw whole prey with 0 prompting and this seems like it would be rare in a 2+ year old fuzz that was eating cat food before she was given to me.

Unfortunately, you'll probably never know. There are a lot of possibilities, and it will be near impossible to pinpoint where he came from.

That's one of the bummers that comes along with rescues....you never really know where they came from, where they've been and what their whole story is...

All the PV's that I've ever had in went to raw without much trouble. I don't know if they're fed some sort of raw in their kits stage. Perhaps a soupy or fed some sort of mink mix as part of their weaning regime. I gather there are a few small scale farms that don't tatoo their fuzzes and of course no BYB breeder does either. The only other thing you might do is look for a chip (that's a stretch but some breeders do it). The only thing you can do is love your little ones no matter where they come from. They are little gifts, there is no origin or place of return... ciao

That's odd that you mentioned about the PV's and the raw, Heather! The two I have here(Lucrezia and Willow), who I think *might* be PV's, took to the raw immediately.

So you have a ferret with no tats, no birth records, nothing to prove it was born on earth at all. I have the answer, its a secret you know. Sometimes ferrents make delicious food for ferrets, then one day decide "hay i can eat this too :. And they like it. Weeks pass of eating ferret food and ya know what, they turn into a ferret! Their only hope of survival now is to be adopted. Say, by you. [glow=red,2,300]JK[/glow] Ok hears what really happens, ideat people get a Jill don't get her fixed and one spring leave them home alone with a hob I heard of times it really happened, really! And so they sell or give away the kits for free, often before their even weened causing undeveloped immune system they need mom's milk to get! Hopefully not this case.

Very cute story, Aaron (the first one). I hope that's what happens. Well, I've searched all over and he's DEFINITELY not a Real Canadian, Marshall's, OR Triple F ferret since all of them have various tats. My guess is he's a BYB pet-store fert or a Path Valley fuzz. I rather doubt the latter though as he is going to be a challenge to switch to raw, I'm fairly certain (based on what Heather said above about PV's being slightly easier in general). He is so small, and has a good deal of coat despite it being shedding season and fed Marshall's crap. I guess not knowing just makes him my little angel ferret all the more! He truly is a gift.
