I need help. I switched my two ferrets to a locally produced barf food about a week ago. It is made by Tollden farms and is their raw with botanicals blend. My ferrets are adjusting well and have started eating it mixed with water and a bit of oil to get them used to it. Both of them seem to like eatting it now. The problem is that one of my two ferrets has vomitted it all up after chowing down. This has happened twice within minutes of eatting a large quantity. It hasnt happened when she has only had a nibble. I am wondering what's wrong? Is she allergic to something in it? My other ferret is fine so...?? Please help!!

Sounds to me that your little one may have eaten too quickly or too much. This does happen when they're first switched. Gluttony isn't uncommon Is it always after the same protein? ciao

Mine will also throw up if they've eaten too quickly, or were little piggies.

Same here. Just watch for lethargy, dehydration, anything that seems off.

Thanks so much for the advice. I was starting to get worried. So her vomitting is actually indicating how much she likes it! Thats good. To stop her from pigging out too much, should I try to regulate how fast she eats or should I just leave it alone and she will learn on her own?

You can either regulate how much you give her, or you can give her large enough pieces that she actually has to chew it before swallowing That's what worked for most of mine.

If it's in a soup form, I usually spoon feed to keep them for eating too quickly.

Yes, I had a little beggar eat so much fish that he vomited over and over. I didn't think to portion the fish to an amount per ferret and feed separately. I didn't know they loved fish so much! To hear that little stomach churning was nauseating, and I hated watching him get so sick. I always give them collectively one portion at a time now, so one doesn't get sick if they eat the whole bowl full.

I think you were all right about her being a little piggy. I decreased how much water I added to the ground raw so she has to chew her food instead of drink it. Its definitely slowed her down and she hasnt vomitted since. Fingers crossed!! Thanks so much for all the advice. Its much appreciated
