I have two ferrets that use their litter box consistently in their cage, but when i let them run around the room, i always put a litter box in their favorite spot where they used to go on my carpet, but even though they know its there, they go to the bathroom directly NEXT to the box. So how do i train them to go to the bathroom in their litter box anywhere, even if they're running around the house? Ohh and i know that you're supposed to put a couple litter boxes in every room they play in, i did that and they still go on the floor even if they know that the boxes are there. Thank you

My advice is this. When they first wake up, take them out of the cage and make them use the bathroom in the box. Reward with fav treat. Do this consistently. After they're out for 1-2 hours, repeat the process.
Also, it helps to make sure you have a box with easy access. Ferrets like to back up into their box, so a box with a lip makes that difficult.

You can also try using some newspaper instead of boxes. We have one little girl who consistently went beside or in front of the box. No matter what we did, nothing worked. One day I had to do a quick box change(cage cleaning day) and she started backing up so I grabbed her, put some paper down as it was faster and she used it! For the most part she uses paper consistently.
