What a good idea! Bird supply places sell a kabob skewer thing too which I bet would work too...and at least the ones I have for my birds have a screw on sort of cap thing to secure the end which would make it safer too...no open ended hooks.

Yep, same thing! I've been thinking about upgrading to the longer bird version now that I'm feeding four ferts at once.
