So I thought I'd share this with you guys, as I need something positive to end this week from h*ll. (See the post Eddie's under the weather). To start, TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine. So at the clinic I work at, a new vet has started who practices TCM, accupunture as well as osteopathy (the animal equivalent of chiropractic, I believe). Anyway, I was asking her one day if she'd heard of using Reishi mushrooms to treat MCT's (mast cell tumours) in ferrets or any other species. I explained that Leo had a MCT on his knuckle that was quite large, but because of his age and insulinoma and the fact he was leaving it alone, I really didn't want to put him under a GA to have it removed. She said she'd dabbled in mushrooms a bit, but something she HAD used with great success in dogs and cats was TCM herbs topically in cream form. She asked if I'd give it a try and I said sure. The results speak for themselves... This first pic was taken prior to treatment. Treatment was started the 13th of June. This next picture was taken less than a week later: This last picture was taken on the 21st or 22nd: Pretty cool, eh?

Oh, wow! That is amazing! What's the trade name of this cream? It was something she made up; the herbs mixed into a regular vitmain E cream. I can't remember the name of the herbs off hand, but it I know it was written as an abbreviation in Leo's file so I don't think that's much help.

If she won't share the recipe would she sell some? I've just brought Odin in because of a MCT tumour on his shoulder. It's not been overly bothersome until this last time. It's got larger and unfortunately, because of his age (he's 10 this year) surgery is not an option. I would buy some from her. Odin has had a scraping and the cells came back as benign. I've tried the Reishi with him but he won't eat his food when it's in. If I can find an alternative that will work instead of the mushroom that would be fantastic ciao

She said she'd dabbled in mushrooms a bit Haha, having grown up in the 70's, this stuck me as funny ;D I think it is fantastic that you have access to such a vet and right at your fingertips! I would LOVE someone who does chiro on small animals, for starters. There is a woman near me who works on horses but I get pretty nervous having her work on my 4 lb. dogs. I've done it but still not comfortable. And although I am 1 hour from Cornell, they don't put out any vets who use Chinese herbs or anything close to it. The vet I like the most who makes them part of his practice lives on LI,,,5 hours from me. At lease he will work with me over the phone. The difference in his tumor after is remarkable. Yay for the little mans success
