Hello. I have read all of the articles of vaccination for ferrets, but i have a few questions. I would like to only get him his rabies & distemper 1 time. He was born jan 22, so hes about 4 months old. He had 1 distemper at 7-9wks and no other shots after that. Would this distemper have worked or should I get 1 more next month and his rabies the month after? I am not 100% positive, but I think rabies is required in Colorado. I do plan on taking him for walks outside often, so should he have boosters of these or just a 1 time and he will be good for life? I know everyone has different beliefs in vaccines, but I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

If you plan to vaccinate only once; I'd wait until about 5-6 months (so the immune system can be fully mature). Based on the studies, it seems like a single rabies likely protects for life. However, most laws state that rabies needs to be given yearly. So if he jad a vaccine 2 years ago, he might be protected, but he isn't according to the law. So in order to be considered protected by the law, you need to vaccinate yearly for rabies. So that's something to think about. I've never gotten rabies (required in my state too) for my fuzz.

Rabies is a yearly requirement here as well. I haven't vaccinated for it for a long time. However- the only ones allowed near my fuzz now are ferret people.
