My fuzzies have had a lot of outside time this weekend but now Ginny has discovered that if she rubs her upper body along the ground while tucking her front paws behind her, she can push the harness down past her shoulders. Luckily I've watched her closely enough where I can pick her up and fix it before she totally escapes, but I'm hoping there are better solutions out there. The harness is on it's smallest setting around both her neck and her ribs. So I was wondering what type of harnesses are your favorites? Which kinds do you find the most escape proof? Anyone make their own that have been successful? (crochet or sew?) Anyone with an extra small ferret that has been successful with a particular harness?

I just use an h-style. Although I've got one can slip it in a few seconds. She only goes out in a carrier! Message Renee(wepamperpets). She makes them in extra small size.

I've had super wee girlies and all I did was take apart the "H" harness and reassemble it tighter. Getting someone to make you a custom harness would also work. Either way, you need to get a tighter fit. I've found the "H" harness the best for all of my guys (at least until they start going into reverse very quickly while on lead, then they will throw the harness without a problem) ciao

Ok well that's what we have (H style). Guess I need to either find a way to make this one smaller or get a custom one made. Heather I'm not sure how slipping out of it backward would be any easier than slipping out forward, the way my girl does. Just cuz it's closer to the head? Nevermind that must be why. Spose we'll cross that bridge when/if we come to it. @sherry Thanks. Maybe I will do that. Now how to measure a ferret when I can't even manage to get a decent picture! ;D

Most of my guys couldn't escape going forward...that big fat belly gets in the way ciao

Ginny is on the small side. She hasn't gotten past the belly YET, but she has pushed it down past her shoulders so that her front paws are kinda trapped in a funny way before I "rescue" her and fix it. Obviously I'm not going to wait and see if she can actually get all the way out of it, especially outside. Past the shoulders was bad enough for me. Luckily I did manage to measure her and I shortened her harness so that it fits better. Didn't get a chance to try it outside today, but it does seem to fit better.

Bode has been able to slip any harness I put on him. However, I'm fond of a figure 8 style harness. Mine has very narrow straps and Bode likes it because it doesn't restrict him at all. Also, applying pressure vertically rather than horizontally when your ferret reaches the end of the lead can help keep them in it.

smart slinky ferret Josie taught me early about ferrets and harnesses and is the reason I make my own.

Could you post your instructions for harness making? What kind of materials do you use?
