I got a three level cat condo today (http://www.ferret.com/item/ware-three-story-ferret-condo/651163/ like this but cat-sized) and I want to have tubes running to each level. I was thinking of getting the Marshall extendable tube and cutting it into smaller pieces. Would it still be safe after getting cut, or would it be more likey to be dangerous? The other option I was thinking about was poseable drainage tubing, I think I remember reading that it's tougher/cheaper. I don't mind the tubes not being clear at all. I'm also wondering what the best way would be to attach the tubes to the condo. Would a staple be too easy for them to tear out and swallow? I'm going to take my (largely unused) desk out of my room to make more room for ferrety goodness. Getting really excited!

I def would not use staples. That just screams for trouble. I have one of those Marshall's tube. Chestnut just ripped it, so it's going into the trash. I have a bunch of these. www.amazon.com/Builders-Best-100017-Clear-Dryer/dp/B000DZFTEO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336950853&sr=8-1. If you e-mail them and ask them if they'd combine shipping, they will and give you a good price. I liked the marshall's tube as well, but it's d**** expensive and it seems like my weasel rips it...so mind as well buy him something cheaper. I've never tried the drainage tube. These tubes I have if you just push one into another they will stay like that.

Cool, thanks! Looks like a MUCH better deal and I love that it's clear.

As much as I like watching my wee ones playing in the tube, my guys shred the marshals tubing and it's so expensive I really can't be bothered with it any more I use black drainage tube or big "O" tube. I cut it to the lengths I need, it's pennies a foot and I use it on the ladders within the ferret nations to prevent the wee ones from getting their feet caught. I use ties to attach it and there is no risk of them eating them ciao

What do you mean by using it on the ladders? Just lay a length of tube on the ladder? I think I will stick with the kind that Klaudia linked me to, I like the fact that it's clear. Now I just have to wait until I have my room all set up and figure out how much I want to start with.

Klaudia, if I were to cut those tubes into smaller pieces would they have to be sanded down smooth or would they be okay?

Maybe sand the wires' end what runs inside if you cut it. But you can just roll them up too if you don't have to cut too much off. It's a very flexible plastic. And it's very easy to connect them too.
