After Charlotte figured out how to get *under* the super draft guards on the doors, and Wheatley figured out how to effectively knock down the baby gate we got for the doorway, I decided on a slightly more creative solution. Meet my new ferret gate, which they've yet to scale, knock down, or crawl under. We spent about $50 and an hour or so putting it together. We had 2 sheets of plexiglass done up (our door width minus .25 inch total), partly because we had to buy the bigger sheet anyway and partly because we're clumsy and wanted to have a spare. We bought thin aluminum support beams (near the electrical stuff in Lowes if I remember correctly) that are square U-shaped about .5in wide, and drilled 3 holes in each one. We attached them to the door frame using small screws and just slid the plexiglass down into the tracks. Now we can remove the gate with ease, and the little ones cannot cross! It's been such a relief knowing that Charlotte can't squeeze under the door (the gate is about a half inch from the door when shut) and Wheatley can't just push at it until it falls. A few closeups:

That is an excellent idea- especially the metal premade supports! Others I've seen use wood pieces with a center section cut out to slide the plexiglas in.
