I am now leaning towards on making Oreo a home made cage with a really cute design however I was wondering, Is a home made cage more safer to make and what type of materials would I need to make it?

Are you thinking an indoor cage, or an outdoor cage? And what materials do you have access to?

Before the cage we have now, we made our own. It wasn't the best shelf wise or to clean but it did the job! That was until one of my dogs worked with one of the ferrets to put a hole in the back of it so they could escape......
We used 1cm x 1cm square (the holes in the wire) wire fencing stuff and riveted it down to the frame with steel flooring and steel cornering (the cornering was on the outside) lino for the floor and wire and shade cloth for the roof.
If we had to do it again I would certainly make sure I had a bigger budget and I'd do it differently. All up it cost us maybe $175-$200 AUD so it is doable! This was an outside cage too btw, and was 1m squared by 2m tall..
