I'm not familiar with that stuff. Did you refrigerate the probiotic after you opened it?

Fortiflora feline isn't refridgerated either. It's only sold at vet offices and designed for cats but as other "pet probiotics" should be safe for ferrets. I've never used it personally though. The reason weloveourweasels asked about refridgeration is because the really good probiotics are ones that you have to keep in the fridge. You can get some at your local grocery store / health food store - just look in the refridgerated section. acdiophilus is a good one to get. They are capsules that you can break open. You can also try giving some full fat balkan (greek style) yoghurt that has probiotics in it. This usually helps them recover well from antibiotics. Just make sure it is PLAIN and has absolutely NO artificial flavouring or anything other than just the yoghurt and probiotics in it

Boris' vet gave me some Fortiflora after one of his rounds of antibiotics, so yes it's safe. Problem was he hated it So we went back to the Prozyme Probios

I thought I remember reading its needs to be refrigerated after opening..I know they lose their effectiveness if left at room temp. Since the good bacteria are alive. They die and become useless when warm. I know I keep my own probiotics in the fridge.

The live ones def. need refrigeration. Haven't heard anything about the powdered ones though.

Actually it's excellent, being a live probiotic. You'd have to ask Heather about the dosage though.

Fortiflora is micro-coated so that the good bugs survive getting through the acidic stomach into the guts where they do their thing. It doesn't need to be refrigerated. You can add COOL water (warm water will cook the good bugs) to it and mix it into his food, that might help with palatability. That being said, I did use it with one of my ferrets a few years ago and he HATED it. Just make sure whatever probiotic you use you give at least 2-3 hours away from the antibiotic otherwise you're killing all the good bugs! FOUND
