Hi all My two original ferrets werent taking to meat cooked or raw very well, but when I got 3 rescues its all changed. My original guys are eating much more raw than they ever did, I think its cause they dont want the newbies to have it so they`d best eat it So im taking full advantage of it and trying new meats etc but my concern is they seem ravenous for the meat, i mean really havent seen them want or eat that much since ive had them. Its war at feeding times tho they all end up fighting, Bandit will chase them off but while hes doing that another comes and steals his stash funny to watch then he goes around hunting for it hissing at everyone. They are always thinking theyre getting more so when they see us coming they go nuts is this normal? and they seem to have much more energy Is all this normal ? thanks for any replies

Everything you have described is perfectly normal ;D Including the drastically increased appetites! It's like their bodies suddenly realize they've been starved for nutrition and are now making up for lost time. Not to worry- it slows down in a month or two to what they'll be eating normally. And I love the food fights ;D It's not uncommon for me to hear hissing and squealing/screaming coming from the cages at meal times.

LOL! Definitely normal, perfectly healthy behaviors! Hah! They're hooked now! Run with it! Competition is a great coach! When you monitor their meals, offer them enough so that just one or two pieces are left over. This ensures that everyone has had a chance to get their fill. Its amusing that they do think someone else's prize is better than theirs. Today was a mouse day so I offered 10 mice to 8 ferrets. I chuckled as they all ran about stashing and stealing eachother's morsels. One would wrest it away from another then run to stash it, with the "loser" simply sniffing along behind locating the stolen prize and reclaiming it! Hissing, barking, squealing, chuckling continued for about the first 15 minutes then they finally settled down and the satisfying crunches came forth. The two left over mice will disappear later, I am certain. Cheers, Kim

im so excited, they polished off all their chicken livers, so thats another new meat yipeeeeee, plus it was only .47pence as had to be eaten today. Result lol I`m taking full advantage of this, just running out of choices so im gonna have to source a good butcher. they seem to struggle with beef tho for some strange reason. Ah well you cant win them all.
