Since I nearly peed my pants when I saw how expensive frozen whole prey is, I don't think I'll be able to do a full whole prey model diet. I'm thinking frankenprey/commercial raw/whole prey. (No more kibble, though!)
I found a cultural market, and they have all sorts of different kinds of meats.
Here's a list of stuff that I'm wondering is safe to feed, or what preparation should be done if they need special preparing to make them safe for fuzzies.
-Frog legs -Pork organs (I've heard horror stories. Don't know how true they are, but just wanted to double check). -Snails -Pig feet, ears, snout, uterus.... (All are raw). -Chicken/quail/duck stewing.... What's stewing? -Goat meat -Lamb meat -Ostrich meat

Yeah I'd be a little iffy about snails, nothing wrong with considering them though. Ostrich? Hahah, there's a place around here that sells ostrich, even wild boar and kangaroo.

Nice selection!!! I wouldn't do the snail either. It's toxic for dogs (my husband's friends dog died from it), so probably not very good for ferrets either.

Thanks guys! I wasn't sure about the snails. All I could really think of was the episode of 'Monsters Inside Me' when they had parasites in their brain and it was from eating snail.... BLECH.

So went down there today and got some meat.
Got a whole duck, some chicken wings, frog legs, 3 lbs. of chicken hearts and 3 lbs. of chicken liver. The duck I grabbed has a head still. (They had an option of headed or headless, so I got headed). Can I do anything with the head?
They also had little packs of things labeled 'eel steaks.' It looked like it was just raw eel cut up into sections. Would eel be okay to feed? They have quite the selection there. Haha.

Eel is extremely salty naturally, so I'd avoid it. As for the duck head- toss it in and see what they do with it!

I would hack up the head first. You may need to get the eyes and tongue out for them. They will gnaw on the beak don't know if they will eat it all.

Does anyone know where I can get a whole chicken with the organs and everything left in? I thought Cornish game hens had their organs in them still, but I've had no luck....

I can't remember if you are feeding raw yet or just starting your switch? I'm still in the process of switching, and goat/lamb was too rich for my kids (at least that's the guess). Gave them wicked nasty diarrhea. So I'd probably be careful with that. They liked the duck though. The whole chickens I get at the grocery store usually come with an assortment of organs packaged inside. It varies chicken to chicken what they include. Neck, liver, gizzard is pretty standard. Heart occasionally.

I get my whole chickens from walmart, food city or Aldi for $4-6. They come with neck giblets and liver.

-Frog legs yes wild polecats' diets consist of a large amount of frogs and small lizards in addtion to other small prey (mice, etc) so as long as the yare safe for human consumption they should e fine I would think -Pork organs (I've heard horror stories. Don't know how true they are, but just wanted to double check). Yes absolutely -Snails Not sure but I'd think they should be fine -Pig feet, ears, snout, uterus.... (All are raw). -Chicken/quail/duck stewing.... What's stewing? -Goat meat -Lamb meat -Ostrich meat Yes yes yes and yes to all of the above. Goat and lamb are very similar (kind of like beef and buffalo) and are GREAT for allergy ferrets, IBD, ferrets, and other GI issues as they are very gentle meats. They are typically consdiered "hypoalelrgenic" as they are very easy on the stomach. Lamb is hit or miss though, some like it, some hate it, and some eat it then one day suddenly decide to never touch it again (*cough cough KODA!* ).
