Hello everyone! My name is Ashley, although a lot of my friends call me Sage (you're welcome to either). I am 22 and live in PA, I'm working on being accepted into college for Game Art and Design. (My dream was to always be an illustrator however this field has a better market and more opportunity.) Before this I went to community college for graphic design and ended up dropping out. (Live and learn, I suppose.)
I love animals. All different kinds. I originally wanted a pair of ferrets in high school but gods know my mother wasn't going to let that happen. Ironically enough here I am in her home -again- while I get my schooling figured out. My fiance and Iwill be moving out I'm just not exactly sure -when-. (Thankfully the school I'm looking into offers the program online, so once I'm enrolled I'll feel comfortable moving out once numbers are crunched and such.) But when the moment is right, and we can have a spare room for them (looking for a 2 bedroom apartment), I will be adding two ferrets to my family.
In the meantime, I am here to learn what else I can to take care of them to the best of my abilities for when that moment comes. I planned on feeding a combination of kibble (wild blue no-grain high-protein cat food), as well as raw for necessary fats. However reading around I'm considering raw and whole prey. We'll see.
Currently my animal family consists of the following:
- Nikko the cat (raised her from a neglected litter, she is my child)
- Booboo the cat
- Goliath the rosehair tarantula
- Deathicus (blame the movie 'Megamind') the rosehair tarantula.
- 3 baby curlyhair tarantulas and 2 baby chaco golden knee tarantulas (all living in separate pill bottles, this is how tiny they are!)
Which brings me my first question, to feed my tarantulas I have a very small blaptica dubia roach colony. They're incredibly high in protein and very easy to take care of, they're unable to climb smooth surfaces too. I've heard of worms and crickets being a good ferret snack, do you think there would be any interest in the occasional roach?
Anyways thanks everyone! I look forward to learning as much as possible.
