New ferret mom! Wanting to say hello from BC!

Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum but I will admit I have been lurking for awhile now! My name is Isis and I live in Vancouver, BC with my boyfriend of 3 years. I have been wanting a ferret friend since I was 12 but my parents didn't want one because they "stink". I introduced my boyfriend to the cuteness of the little fuzzies several years ago but we were not living in a place that would allow them. We had to get our ferret fix with YouTube videos and window shopping the pet stores. When we moved into a place allowing pets my boyfriend surprised me with a puppy. Our hands were full with the new puppy, but now they tiny puppy is a grown up white shepherd named Apollo and we were finally able to get a ferret.

We saved up for months, bought a cage off Craigslist. Set it up slowly with all the goodies and beds. Today we got our new little boy! He is a super handsome white with brown markings all over him. He was born Dec, 11t 2011 so he is just a baby. We named him Spyro . He has been amazing so far, war dancing all over the place, playing with his toys and sleeping. The first night we had him he slept for hours in my arms after play time! I'm really surprised but nipping has been non-existent so far. Spyro is being a little stubborn with litter trainning, he likes to go in any corner that's not where his litter box is. In fact I put him in his box after seeing the potty dance and he walked right out and popped in the other corner ;D haha. I guess it will just take patients before he clues in, I added another box in the corner he seems to like and will try that out.

I am so happy to have him and I am excited for all the surprises ahead! I can't wait to be apart of the community here! I wil post photos as soon as I put them on my computer. Maybe if anyone else on the fourm is around my area maybe we can meet and talk ferrets!

Please feel free to prowl around, check out sections, read threads, ask questions, get involved in discussions (great way to learn). Everyone's friendly (except when denied photos...they're a bit antsy about those ) Don't let that scare you though, they're still very friendly

Love the no-drama attitude of the forum. You'll enjoy it.
I think some ferrets naturally use a litter box and some will just choose not to. Mine do except for two. They'd rather make a bed out of it, so removing the actual paper pellets was a good thing for them. I clean daily anyways so not so bad. You can try to put some of their feces into the box, see if that works, but no guarantee. When they have gotten to a certain age, it might be a quest not accomplished, but in no way should it deter you from trying or succeeding or simply owning them. You can try two different kinds of litter. I know people have tried those corner things, but to me, I personally can not see it doing a thing, but making another corner and the cage smaller. Bigger is better!
