So I've slowly been introducing my five kids to soupies, but my one girl Marcy can't get more than a few licks and some minutes later starts puking. Obviously she doesn't bring much up, usually just a little bit of clear fluid and whatever TEENY chunks she may have ingested. I've only tried chicken with her so far, that's all she'll lick without gagging and sputtering. None of the other ferrets have this problem, so I know the meat's ok. Thoughts? p.s. she's had chicken her whole life in kibble form, and LOVES chicken baby food, so I don't think it's an allergy, maybe an intollerance to the raw form?

Boris also used to do the whole retching, gagging, and spitting up of soupies He was so convinced I was poisoning him it was unbelieveable! What I wound up doing with him was moving to a different protein that he didn't associate the whole retching thing with.

Ok, tried rabbit tonight. It went better, she didn't put up as much of a fight... then sure enough about two minutes later, up it all comes. And of course, because she got more in this time, she puked and puked and puked... and of coursed stressed herself into an absolute tizzy. Once I assumed she was all done I gave her some RR to help calm her down, then she started to whimper while I cuddled her!

Alright. Can you try a cooked soup for her to start with? I'm thinking she's going to need a slower introduction to the raw. Puree the cooked chicken, get her eating that, then slowly start adding in a wee bit of raw puree.

The meats are ground with added water to make them "soupy"; I don't have a strong enough blender to really puree them. She'll either lick a little of the liquid off the end of a spoon or my finger, if she gets a chunk it's teeny; smaller than a lady bug size?

It's unusual for them to vomit that way I was wondering if she was feeling stressed about eating it. Try it cooked and see if you can make it absolutely smooth and see if she can keep it down ciao

Ok, and as an aside, apparently Marcy thinks freeze-dried chicken hearts are DELICIOUS!!

It seems that freeze dried anything is very tasty. Did she keep it down? ciao

Dried or rehydrated....you know that points to the fact that it's not a protein allergy?? Something else is being peculiar here ciao
