Ok I'm going to try feeding Salem BARF for the first time. He's had other meats before so he knows its food. My question is can I just feed him the BARF right away if he will eat it right away? or will that make him sick?

As long as that's a fine grind it will be fine. And since he's already had meat, he'll be okay with it Although you may have trouble getting him past the texture if he's only had chunks and bone in meats.

Just make sure he gets a minimum of 3 different proteins Sorry- just reread what you wrote. Can you get him eating some meats chunks, slivers? You really do need more than just two.

I am of the mind, that if they are eating meats let roll on from there! Nix the kibble altogether and widen your meat bases! Continuing to dole out the kibbles simply prolongs the funky gut bacteria and may interfere with the meat nutrient absorption because the kibble is pushing through. Any change in diet will result in a gut bacterial change, so the sooner the change is complete the better for the ferret's system.
Cheers, Kim

I called the store, they also have rabbit flavour. We actually waste alot of raw meat scraps so I don't think getting the slivers will be a problem Just make sure he gets a minimum of 3 different proteins Sorry- just reread what you wrote. I switched him cold turkey, and had no problem.... You have to be REALLY careful with doing this. If your ferret has a hidden insulinoma, this can trigger a crash. Not just that, but if they are like my Boris at all, they will willingly starve themselves to death rather than eat something they don't recognize- even WITH hand feedings
